Denver/OKC (Draft Day trade)

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Sat Mar 1, 2025 11:26 pm

Denver Trades: Denver agrees to make the 2027 and 2029 1st rd picks owed to OKC unprotected.

OKC Trades: #18 and 3 future 2nd rd picks

Denver gets a few more pieces in their cupboard and OKC re rolls an extra 1st they have in this draft for a potentially more valuable one in the future.

That’s dreadful for Denver. OKC should add significantly more imo. Basically two unprotected firsts for the 18th pick?

Risky move for the Nuggets, all it takes to hit that protection range is an injury to Jokic which at 32/24 doesn't seem like a crazy scenario. Too small a reward for the risk IMO.

Picks are top 5 protected, this is about removing the protections. Basically only matters if the Nuggets land a top 5 pick.

Value seems to favor Denver pretty significantly, but with a less greedy ask it feels like something Presti would consider.

Oklahoma City has historically been a team who targets their guy(s) in the draft and goes and gets them. I'm guessing they would be more likely to trade #16 + #19 to get their guy.

If they don't have anyone, making a deal like this is an easy back-up plan.

I think if OKC has 16 and 19 they would try to move up to late lotto for a specific target.

But I think OKC would trade 19 to take the protection off the 2027 1st and get an unprotected 2030 swap. Maybe a protected 2028 swap as well? That feels greedy.

So, this is the question. What si realistic draft capital Denver could get from OKC for simply removing protections from 2027 and 2029 1st round picks, Denver traded to OKC. Both are top 5 protected now.
Denver don't add anything more (like swaps or something).

If okc trades down with Brooklyn maybe a late 20s pick
