Are the Grizz going to pay it? If so…how does that work with Ja and Bane’s deals?
If they aren’t going to make JJJ the highest paid player ever, they are going to trade him?

Bane isn't on a Max. He signed a deal starting at ~25% of the cap with 8% raises.

It's interesting simce he was underpaid on his current contract, I'm sure it'll come up in contract negotiations.

Ja and Bane are 70 together and going up. Giving JJJ a contract that averages almost 70 per year too….all that in three guys in a small market. What am I missing? The rest of the team would have to be vet’s minimum and rookie scale and/or Gleaguers.

The renegotiate and extend will give both sides more options and keep both sides happy. If he qualifies for 35% after this season, he’ll be eligible for just over 30 million extra next season.
Might mean Memphis has to sacrifice a depth guy, but figure that out after you lock JJJ up.

He is their best player by a wide margin... they have to pay him... My question is what happens with Aldama? I suppose Detroit and the Nets offer him a contract of +- 18 million? Does Memphis match that? Could Bane be available to lighten the salary cap?

More options? If JJJ is eligible for a supermax why wouldn’t he demand the supermax? There’s no negotiations in that scenario, right? And if they try to lowball him couldn’t he pick a destination? He’d have all the leverage if Memphis isn’t paying top dollar.

He is locked in at 20soemthing million next year. Renegotiate and extend he makes more money earlier

Maybe Memphis only offers 32% or something rather than 35%. If you trust his health going forward it's a reasonable deal. Memphis will start losing depth guys - that's how the CBA is designed. As top players get older they get more expensive to if you've got several notable players getting older your roster is going to have to get cheaper around the edges.

There's a reason they dumped Smart's contract. JJJ isn't going anywhere. If this was Ja's third contract looking at 35% of the cap, they'd have a decision to make. It's not.

More earlier is good. More overall is better.
If I’m JJJs agent and he is eligible my email reads, please tells us when to come sign the supermax. K. Thanks. Bye.

25 year old Top 10ish players get maxed, this isnt a contentious issue. I would only say for Memphis to add some games played clauses, but that's it.

More options meaning they can offer him 30 million extra dollars next year. (If he qualifies for 35%)..
No risking injury or testing free agency. Just pay him first thing.
Theres wiggle room (options) there IMO. Even if it’s just paying him 30 mill extra next season to trimming 4-6 million a year off his future cap hits.
He doesn’t necessarily have to give up money. Though, I’d guess he is willing to do it for a number more than what anyone else can offer / less than the super max. But that just a guess from a complete outsider..

Tell that to Luka. Or Cousins.
345m. For JJJ. In Memphis. It’s a ton. Literally the biggest contract in league history. I don’t think it’s as slam dunk as people are making it out to be. How do you build a team around that? Is Grizz ownership will to pay huge tax bills?

How does renegotiate work, if they kerp Aldama and fill out their roster? After that they should've barely capspace left.

Luka is honestly is a 1 off, Cousins was overrated garbage, the complete opposite of JJJ. Cousins was a loser, inefficient, and didn't defend. Brown signed a 5 year 304m deal with Boston and guess what they are still fine. I would rather have JJJ at 5 years 345 than Brown at 305m.
It isn't about whether or not, the Grizz can build off paying JJJ 345m but whether or not that contract holds value. If I was the Grizz I would be more concerned about paying JA and Bane 80m collectively than JJJ 70m.

Top 10ish is a reach unless there are 30 Top 10ish players.
I think Memphis plan is to keep JJJ and I like him as a cornerstone more than Ja, who seemingly is going to be the odd man out given the new CBA.

Do you really worry about losing Clarke and Aldama in order to give JJJ 30 million dollars? I wouldn’t at all. Deal with that after.
But they only need to lose both Clarke and Aldama if the renegotiate needs to be 35%. With 30%, they can keep either big and then finish the bench after..

Include next season?
6yr368 - Full 35% max with the 1 year he currently has
His 4yr max from another team (leaving Memphis in free agency in 12 months) would be about 5yr245 (including the 23 mil)
If Memphis offers to bring him up to a 35% max this offseason and have it as a flat contract (5yr270) he makes 25 mil more than anyone else can offer.
Theres a lot of negotiating room between the full DPE and what anyone can offer..

yea JJJ really dont have that much leverage all things considering. tons of middle ground for him to beat out the FA offers avaialble out there. Especially if they renegotiate and extend
