AD offers...KI...Mavs future

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Tue Mar 4, 2025 7:57 am

I hope I'm wrong, but KI's injury looks bad.. and things could get ugly this summer with KI's upcoming extension.. let's say Irving misses significant time and doesn't come to an agreement to extend his contract.. he takes his PO, while he recovers and waits to go out in free agency in 2026 where there are more teams that can pay him... The Mavs ownership has the perfect excuse to blame Nico for all their ills and fire him to start a rebuild.. what teams and what offers could the Mavs have for AD? or even for KI?

Still nico right? So something like rui+kleber+1st for AD seems reasonable

I think Hawks(Risacher/Okongwu/Mann picks)and Kings(Murray/Carter /DDR+Picks)could present solid offers

Hawks and Kings are both interesting. I like AD/Wemby.

I would see if CLT wants to try to get better.

Ask for all three of their 2027 firsts. Not sure what else.

Feel like AD should be worth more than 3 future firsts, but I know leverage means a lot here so don’t want to overshoot it.

CLT keeps their high lottery pick. Send whatever matching salary they want. Mark/AD/Miller/Dylan/Ball “on paper” is really great. But CLT would get to enjoy a few years of that group with no tax issues.

Dallas gets to tank 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, while owning 3 firsts from other teams and only owing 2 swaps and 1 first.

By 2027-2028, Dallas will have had the chance to draft a good young core with Lively and could be ready to ignore the pick debt.

Can Dallas trade AD for Joel Embiid++, pay Kyrie and Joel not to play next season and hope the surgeries are successful?

No idea if Philly would want AD, or if they’d want it to be a three team trade and end up with some rebuilding asset, or cap relief, etc. But I think a semi-healthy AD is worth more than a knee surgery Joel?

So instead of getting “third team bad salary” and “# firsts “ Dallas gets Joel and “smaller # firsts”

(Or the same amount of firsts if Joel doesn’t call for any value due to injury I guess)

This team is a joke and made this bed. I dont wish injury on anyone, but the FO deserves this and more

To be clear, Dallas shouldn't do this trade (I think that they should move forward with Anthony Davis), but Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle for Anthony Davis would almost certainly be on the table.

Being honest, I don't see any world where Anthony Davis gets traded, the Mavericks are optically forced to double down.

I think a one year tank is still an option.

You have Lively and AD’s return. Whatever you can get for PJ/Gafford.. The 2025 Dallas first has to be trending up... And the higher 2026 first. It makes for a young core of some sort honestly?

For Minn specifically, I think you need to ask for Dillingham at least and finding good third team value for Rudy? Randle really doesn’t matter to me if he has no value and has to be a tank commander. Least he is around family for the year probably?

Maybe I’m off. I think AD should still have very good value though.

This isn't productive. So let's not.

Oooof. Torn ACL for Kyrie. Done for the year and probably a good chunk of next year too.

Mavs fans, my heart goes out to y’all

Sometimes you just get a year like this one.... I think you now get Kyrie a bit cheaper(I think he had leverage to demand a max, but now should be a bit cheaper/shorter) or maybe he just opts in, and if your medical team thinks he can be back for the playoffs, I think you use your pick this year to go get a Sexton type to help get through the RS and say with our bigs back we will just be a hard nose defensive team and still try and win.

I don't see a pivot to selling personally. But doing a hard tear down rather than waiting several years is certainly a logical enough approach. Just not one I see them taking.

Also, no reason for AD or Lively to see the court this year. Maybe not PJ or Gafford either.

Was thinking about starting an AD thread as well. I could see the Knicks being very interested, just not quite sure how to make it work. Davis actually makes more money than Towns, which complicates things, but if your the Knicks and your this all-in maybe your start the 2nd apron clock early.

Towns + Hukporti for Davis works

Anunoby + Robinson + Hukporti for Davis works

That really sucks.

They probably won’t have KI next year, AD will be another year older.

Maybe time to punt and rebuild.

Yeah. Get healthy and regroup for next year. If you get a better draft pick out of it then all the better.

Yeah, I think you keep Kyrie no matter what you do with the rest? As long as he is willing to resign, and now he definitely should be... Lock him up on the cheapest/front loaded long term deal he’ll take. Let him rehab and plan on being a good team in 2026-2027 whether AD+?? are on the roster or it’s actually Uncle Drew leading a bunch of kids.

I really prefer locking Kyrie up and trading AD atp. There’s no reason to chase this core. Let Phoenix get the play-in spot. And tell Kyrie he can rehab as long as he wants and we’ll trade him if he doesn’t want to be around what’s left of the roster in 18 months.

jay, you are right.

I still want to see an AD/Kyrie team with two centers and plenty of wing depth at least take one shot at it. Feels like Dallas could be a great defensive team with just enough offense.

Again, it can never work. AD and Lively can't stay healthy and if I'm honest I know these wings aren't good enough and who knows how Kyrie looks when he's back.

But I at least wanted to see what we gave up Luka for....

What does this do for Dallas though? I get why New York does this, but Dallas would need a reason. Either they want to compete so they keep AD or they would want future assets. This is kinda just swapping AD for Towns for no real reason.

this takes us out of the race for KD almost for sure..i think we need a guard now, that can keep the team afloat until KI gets back..anyone in free agency in the mold of Brogdon, Russell, any trades for someone like McCollum? is there really any chance the Mavs will move AD???and accept a lousy loss so soon??
