I’ll switch from Barrett to PWill just because Statue Pat deserves to be on the list. Guy just doesn’t do much, and while the money isn’t huge, it’s sooooo many years.

V Patrick Williams.

Too small of a number/length to be considered:

Ayton
Pope
Nnaji

Useful but bad, but not albatross.

Barrett

Useful, elite at certain things but overpaid

OG
Lavine
Ingram

Health determines value and they could be a difference maker given situation/health

Zion
Butler

Not sure what he’s good at, no upside and massively overpaid

Williams

Patrick Williams is the answer

However, I would add that Lauri could easily be top-15 (in the same mold as Lavine/Ingram).

Butler was just traded for a 1st, Wiggins and small 2026 salary.

How does he belong here?

Butler is still a very good player. Yeah, he might fade over the next two years on that fat extension, and yeah, his emo dick routine is tiresome, but he clearly plays winning basketball as of today.

I don’t think he’s in my worst 20, or maybe even 30, contracts. It’s just two more years.

He then was extended after that trade. 2 more seasons for a total of 111m after this season.
Aging, injury history, history of being a problem when things aren’t going right.

I can certainly respect your opinion but I feel those 2 years/ 111m at age 36 and 37 for a dude who hasn’t played more than 65 games in 8 years is going to be a problem.
For those 2 years he makes 3 times + what Patrick Williams makes. Williams last 2 years are basically mid level.

But it’s also ‘what do they contribute?” Butler has helped turn the Warriors around this year, and he at least might continue to do so over the next two seasons. And if Steph suddenly retires or something, they’ll get value back trading him, almost guaranteed.

Pat Williams is still a kid, staring off into the sky, guarding his man and doing almost nothing else worthwhile. He is the poster child for “stay in your lane”, except his lane doesn’t really go anywhere. 18 mil per for 4 more years doing stuff you could get from a defensive specialist on a 2-way is just sad.
