Lakers/NOP....

LAKERS
In: Herb Jones
Out:Reaves

It's a shame, because apparently Austin is very well-liked by LA fans... but he won't work alongside Luka, especially against good teams... they get one of the best perimeter defenders in the game in return.

NOP
In:Reaves
Out:Herb Jones

Season after season derailed by injuries, they trade for a high-level guard, so as not to start next season at a disadvantage with Murray injured and a huge hole at the guard position... They could also select someone like Edgecombe, to replace Herb.

Plus, Austin could easily share the court with Murray when he returns. ...

On what planet would the Pelicans accept this offer? I don't even see a world where the Pelicans would accept even if the Lakers a unprotected 2031 1st round. You are massively overvaluing Austin Reaves here.

I think you are overvaluing Herb Jones.

Herb Jones had 1 good year shooting the ball in which he became an effective player. If he is closer to the other 3 years in his career, a sub-34% 3P shooter, he is going to be a negative offensive player and those players are really, really difficult to play rotation minutes in the modern NBA.

Maybe Herb Jones higher-volume 3P shooting season is closer to his actual value, but he isn't a 40% 3P shooter on high volume. He is a corner 3 specialist.

Herb Jones hasn't had a great 3pt shooting season, but I don't buy he's shooting 30% or below for the rest of his career. The Pelicans have had a terrible year and Jones long term fit has become more questionable as a result. Herb Jones would be best suited on a playoff team. He's one of the best non big men defenders in the NBA when healthy. That's holds a lot of value to a NBA team, so he won't need to be lights out from 3% point line to get major minutes on a playoff team. He did shoot 41% from the 3pt line last when the Pelicans were actually competitive. Maybe 41% was bit of outlier, but I do think shooting around 35-38% from the 3pt line is realistic. Compared that to say Matisse Thybulle and Jarred Venderbilt who have proven to be total liabilities on offense. Herb Jones is a good above those guys on offense and is also a better defender than them as well.

Lakers have DFS/Rui/ Vando . Herb probably the better than DFS but not sure he solves much for the lakers. Imagine reaves traded for a 3 and d guard or a big

The Lakers hater at it again.

I don't know who you think Herb Jones is, but saying the Pelicans would laugh at trading a "3 and D" player without the 3 for Reaves and an unprotected 1st is an idiotic statement.

So this is a no from the Pels perspective although I don't believe that Reaves is less value than Herb. However I do believe that Trey Murphy is a greater value than Reaves, and Herb is a better fit next to Murphy than Reaves is. I'd rather have Trey guarding the second best wing offensive option rather than the first. And playing Herb and Trey together at the 2/3 gives you a length advantage over 90 percent of teams in the league.

I don't see either team needing to do this. If they move Reaves, they're doing it for a big.
