Hornets/Spurs

Hornets are guaranteed a top 6 pick (at the moment). Supposing it lands at 5 or 6 or higher, Hornets trade the pick to the Spurs for what is now the 9 and 16.

Spurs make a reach and grab Maluach. Get some more size on the 2nd unit.
Hornets grab 2 of Newell, Queen, McNeeley. Get size on the PF spot and make Bridges expendable.

I don't mind this, provided we have trades/FAs lined up to get us some vet experience.

Charlotte needs to have 4 priorities this offseason:

- playmaking starting wing (any position 1-4 works)
- backup wing with actual versatility (no more Josh Green clones)
- very good backup PG (needs to be able to start when Melo misses time and not get killed)
- good third big man (needs to be able to start when Mark misses time and not get killed. preferably able to play some spot minutes with Mark)

Ideally we go into next season having filled at least 3 of these 4 major glaring issues, if not all 4.

If the draft solves two of them, I'll be very happy. Maybe plug one of the holes with a rookie at #9 and trade #16 for an established player (or vice versa if it's an actually good vet)

First, Spurs right now are nominally at 9 at Tankathon, but they have one less win than 8th place. I think they finish 7th or 8th when it's all said and done. But, to answer your question, I don't know that I would trade the Hawks pick (probably ends up 12-16) to climb up 3 or 4 spots... other than the first 4/5 players, I'd say it's fairly flat all the way to the late teens IMO. Of course that could change depending on which team you ask, maybe your target slips and one team sees an opportunity where another doesn't, but ATM I would rather have 9 and 16 (which is likely the low end of where the Spurs picks could end) than 6 for sure, possibly 5 (but I'd leave a door open, as one of VJ Edgecombe or Tre Johnson will be there).
