Raptors - Mavs (REVISED)

Gradey Dick
RJ Barrett

For

Lively
Thompson
Marshall
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raptors add a championship level veteran that was a key part of the GSW dynasty it's a bad contract now but less than Barrett's which gives Toronto flexibility to re-sign Agbaji. The vet and championship exp should help Barnes and their other young players development. They also want to compete next year so they get a good sixth man in Klay, better back up SF, and a back up C.

The Mavs add win now and later to their core of Irving and Davis. They'll have a lottery pick this year and could make for a quick turn around. They also have several good role players like Gafford, Martin, Christie, and others. Their GM wants them to remain competitive and have flexibility moving forward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REVISED:
RJ + Dick

For

Marshall
Gafford
Powell (filler)
2025 1st (12th-14th)

The Raptors get a rebuild package that also builds on their depth and gives them smaller contracts they can deal to create room to re-signing upcoming free agents. They get an additional pick to add young depth to the big man position. They make huge upgrades on their GLeaguer backup C and SF.

Mavs get the best player in the deal with RJ. Gradey was also a 13th overall pick in a similar strength draft, the Mavs skip the painful development part. Gradey has a lot of potential and it could be good for him to play with Klay.

Not really close...
Lively>>Dick
Klay/Marshal>Barret

Gafford/Martin/Hardy (you won't get Lively with that package) for RJ. The Raptors get decent depth and more mobile contracts.

Why on earth would Dallas do this?

Lively is awesome; they should be looking to keep him.

From Toronto's side, RJ for Klay would be a bad idea and we are still trying to see what Gradey can develop into after his second season finishes. He's still on his cheap rookie deal.

This just seems like a poor choice for both teams.

There isn't really a use for Hardy. I guess Lively is off the table, the Raptors would counter with:

RJ + Gradey

Marshall + Gafford + 2025 1st (13th) + Powell (filler)

Poeltl / Gafford / Maluach (7th)
Barnes / Mogbo
Ingram / Marshall / Battle
Agbaji / Walter
IQ / Shead / Richardson (13th)

Davis / Lively
Washington / Martin
Barrett / Dick
Thompson / Christie
Irving / Hardy

RJ is the best player in this deal and that should be recognized. The Raptors would want plus value back and although fans may disagree Nico wants to win and generally lotto picks are delayed gratification.

I still don't see why Dallas would do this at all.

Yeah. I wouldn’t give up a late lottery pick for RJ Barrett. And definitely wouldn’t give up Lively.

My offer is just Gafford/Klay/whatever 2nd Dallas owns.. and throw in Prosper.

Think my top offer is swapping Klay out for Naji+Powell there?

After that point I’d use Dallas’ limited draft capital on a more efficient or better defensive or cheaper guard.

The Mavs do this because Barrett is better than most late lottery picks and he's the best player in the deal. Dick was also a late lottery pick

But why, though? He isn't going to be a focal piece. New York and Toronto have thoroughly demonstrated that. And Klay is like 8 million a year cheaper. There isn't a compelling reason for them to take on that contract, especially while also giving up the other mentioned assets. And Gradey's a gamble right now, too.

It doesn't make sense.

Is Barrett better than Lively?

The OP is really different with 14th in place of Lively.

I think the OP is a lot closer. But they’re kind of making Toronto’s problem (too many 2’s) Dallas’ problem? RJ, Dick, Klay, Christie..

Think Dallas might do the OP if you have it lined up with a Klay trade. Or just make Toronto take Klay.

Counteroffer...Klay/Gafford/Marshall +FRP for Ingram..

No interest in RJ without Lively or a lottery pick. Gafford/Marshall helps a good team more than RJ could and if Dallas is bad I'd rather not be stuck with the contract more than I'd care about his inefficient volume scoring.

I suspect the Raptors are going to struggle to find a team that assigns positive value to Barrett. I have a Barrett/Dick package as pretty nuetral tbh.

I think this is closer.

Depending on the lottery, TOR might be right up against the tax line with a top 4 pick. If so, I'd want to amend this to move Klay to a third team for a lesser player AND lesser salary expiring in 2026. Essentially, I'm suggesting Ingram for Gafford, Marshall, 1 FRP, and less than $14M in expiring salary. I think this has to wait awhile because his extension was signed in February.

On the OP, I don't think people have caught up to the home-road splits for RJ Barrett unless they watch a lot of Raptors ball. He plays a lot better in Toronto in front of his hometown fans, much better than on the road, and also much better than either home or road games with NYK in prior seasons. RJ Barrett playing at the Raptors arena this season is an efficient 24/7/5 with .59 TS%, a decent Ast:TO ratio, and all while playing most of the year with GLeaguers. D looks almost passable at home too.

If Barrett's home performance ever consistently translates to the road, he'll be positive value; if his home performance reverts to the mean of his NYK/road performances, he'll confirm he is the negative contract everyone thinks

Klay to MAGIC
gets one of the best shooters in history, which would help with his spacing

Gafford +SRP Raptors (Now 39) to HAWKS
Ideal fit for T. Young and Capela's replacement due to dropping a few spots in the Draft

WCJ/G.Harris/Marshall/Lakers25(by Hawks)+Lakers 29 (by MAVS)to RAPTORS
They get solid players to fill the bench who I think fit well, future assets, and they can keep their promising local star RJ

Ingram to Mavs

But again, why?

That sounds like a pretty crap takeback for Toronto, solving none of the issues Toronto has and actively worsening at least one. Those late first rounders don't mean too much and that overall asset package is uninspiring. We might as well keep Ingram and not participate.

Isnt Gary Harris a free agent? If so it would be very complicated to do. WCJ is good but not great, Marshall is interesting but not thrilled about a 28 year old having a career year. Not intrested in the picks. IMHO Toronto should see what Ingram and Barnes are like before doing this.
