DoMiami Sabonis

Post#1 » by NYG » Wed Mar 26, 2025 2:00 am

Sacramento Kings get:
Kel'el Ware
Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Terry Rozier
Kyle Anderson
8th Overall Draft Pick (as of the time of this posting on https://tankathon.com/)

Miami Heat get:
Domantas Sabonis

-Kings get a nice rebuilding package to pivot around without taking on long-term contracts financially.

-Heat get a star to retool around without losing any of their core veterans.

Seems kinda like the wrong way to go for Miami. I love Sabonis but I don't see the fit next to Bam. Seems like an awkward investment when what they need is a real point guard

There's not a lot of real point guards available though just doing a quick look.

No thank you. Not interested in Sabonis. And we're really high on Ware. I'd rather see what Ware can develop into on his rookie contract than to slap a bandaid on a sinking raft.

Yeah, I know. That doesn't mean we're giving up pieces for bad fits

This is the highest Miami has picked since 2008. They aren't trading the pick along with two other cost-controlled contributors for someone of the ilk of Sabonis.

Over the past three drafts, Miami will have added Ware, JJJ, Jovic, all of whom project to be rotation players. They can then add #8 (and maybe get some lottery luck at 27.2% of jumping into the Top 4) and another 1st this year to the roster. Herro/Bam/Wiggins are all capable starters on a title contender, but they are missing the #1 option. It's not an ideal situation, but they are sitting right where they seemingly always are, ready to pounce on the next Jimmy Butler type.

Sabonis doesn't make Miami contenders, and they don't have the ammunition after this trade for a clear avenue to become contenders.

Id be cool with this trade if they kept #8th.

Ware + salary filler for sabonis gets it done

Value wise, this isn't crazy. Direction wise, this makes no sense for the Heat. Sabonis is not going to be enough to make the Heat contender. They would still be worse than teams like the Celtics,Cavaliers, Knicks, Pistons, and Pacers by adding him and wouldn't have the assets after that to became a major contender. I think unless a Giannis/Nikola Jokic level player become available, there's not a win now trade out there that makes the Heat close enough to Championship contending to give significant assets.

Agreed. Defensively, it's a nearly PERFECT fit. Mostly because Bam is such a flexible 4/5 defender. Offensively, though? I think they step on each others toes...a lot. They both do so well and seem most comfortable to be able to set screens, get the ball on the elbows, or above the break, and face up to the basket to dribble drive or distribute. With neither comfortable to take multiple possessions drifting toward the corner, or being a consistent catch and shoot 3 point shot, it seems like a lot of offensive conflict?

This is probably the correct value for Sabonis, but I don't think this is the direction Miami should be taking.

If Miami isn’t doing that, Dallas should offer a comparable (worse) “Lively, 12, 2029 LAL first” package..

I don't think this is enough for Sabonis.
