Houston moving Reed, Cam, 14 - Harper? Future pick offers?
Houston kind of needs a consolidation deal. Sheppard was third pick and Whitmore have shown skills but are bench locked. Pick 14 is probably looking at same issue. Obviously, a “star” deal is the goal just like every team wants.
But, if that is not available, options.
1- trade 14, Reed and Cam for future picks.
Curious to see what people would offer.
2- move up for Harper. A scoring pg/sg with his kind of potential might make sense.
Would 14, Reed, Cam for second pick be enough?
Houston has phx pick in 2027 along with top picks of hou/dal/phx in 2029. Could add second best of 2029 or would it need to be more? Or, is it too much already?

Nobody is moving a potential franchise player for that

It's laughable to think a team would choose this package over Harper. in my mind, the scenario where the Hornets drop to pick #5-7 calls for a trade down move like this one.
I do not think you're getting great value out of Reed Sheppard at this point. rookies that don't hit the ground running lose a ton of perceived value like a used car once you drive it off the lot. Like, I'm willing to give him a shot here, but I can't see any reason whatsoever to forgo a top 4 pick in this class for a package with him as the centerpiece.

Sheppard looks like a bust.
I do not value him at all but some might. I also don’t value Kon Kneuppel (who looks like a bust waiting to happen to me) but others might.
I’ve been right and I’ve been wrong and I expect that trend to continue.
If I were the POR FO and got that offer I would laugh them off the phone.

Re: Houston moving Reed, Cam, 14 - Harper? Future pick offers?
- I could see them moving Cam to kick the asset down the road, as we just don't have good opportunities to get him on the court.
- Id say the pick is 50/50 at being moved, if it doesn't jump, or someone like Maluach drops. I really don't know, maybe they really like a Boyles, Fears or a Newell. I really don't know what we would do with guys like Queen, Traore or Egor.
- Very much doubt they would move Reed, as he has a legit skill package that could be great for this team.
Regarding Harper, it really doesn't make sense to nab another guy like this and develop him. They can't really get Reed or Cam on the court now, and they should be even more competitive next year. They already have a guy in Reed who has tremendous upside, so I don't see the point, unless they are thoroughly convinced Harper is on another level.
Probably want to preserve as many assets as possible for a bigger deal.

I think looking at recent history for off-season trades (Gobert, Mitchell, Lillard and Holiday), your package most resembles a Jrue Holiday type package.
Holiday Package: 2024 1st (Top 4 Protected), 2029 1st (Unprotected), Toumani Camara, DeAndre Ayton
Jrue Holiday tier players potentially available (3rd best players on a title team)?
Jrue Holiday himself (half kidding, he doesn't hold the same value but is still immensely valuable)
Karl-Anthony Towns (Matching Salary? Sengun Fit? 3-team?)
Kevin Durant (Bit richer here but one more pick should do it)
Rudy Gobert (See KAT notes)
Pascal Siakam (I doubt we want to move on from him for a rebuilding package)

HOU looks like a team a piece away from contention. Maybe that guy is on the roster. I was skeptical about picking up Vred and Brooks. Looks like I was very wrong.

Judging by your posting history I think you're simply a skeptic resulting in a view of being skeptical about just about every player in the NBA

Nothing wrong with being a skeptic, and you definitely experience more "told ya so" moments living life that way rather than being positive.

Yeah there is a 0% chance someone is giving up the #2 overall pick (which is where most mocks have Harper going) for a collection of B-/C+ assets like this.

What if Houston added the best of hou/bkn/phx 2027 first?
As mentioned, developing another rookie is not the ideal option but his skill set fills the biggest void - the scoring guard Green is supposed to be.
As Vleet and Brooks age out-
Harper Sengun Amen Eason (Jabari or JGreen)

Reed could actually be a really nice fit in Portland if you can get him at a discounted price. This trade would never happen, but I wouldn’t write off Reed just yet. Rookies on really good teams that aren’t given a defined role and consistent playing time might not be a bust, but rather just a bad situation. I’d role the dice on him if the price is right.

Hardest of noes on a tiny sg that can’t play pg and has forgotten how to shoot.
Some other team can scoop that up.

If the Rockets (Suns) pick stays in the 12-13 range, I think they are more likely to trade down or out of the draft than trade up.
They would have to get a first round pick back for either 2025 or 2026 per Stepien rules.

Unless Amen or Sengun is involved you’re not getting the #2 overall pick.

Yeah, not getting a top 2 pick in a good draft for “stuff we don’t want” and a later pick.

That's closer to moving up to, say, #7/8 than it is to #2.

With the Suns losing so much, their pick is #10 right now
#10/Whitmore/Reed to Char for the #2?
That's decent. Ball/Harper might not work
Spurs too, might work-Harper/Fox doesn't work
Sixers use that package for young depth-Harper/Maxey might not be ideal
This package has value-maybe Hou adds a future pick

Of all the things to be concerned about with Sheppard, him supposedly having ‘forgotten how to shoot’ should definitely not make the list.

Houston is the second seed, they are too good and they don't have time to develop prospects.. I don't even think Shepard is a bust, he's just buried in the rotation, and without opportunities to make mistakes and learn, it's very difficult to develop.. they have to go on the hunt for an offensive star, even if you have to overpay.

It’s really not though. No one is trading a dollar bill for a couple nickels and dimes.
