Rockets Land KD w/Magic

Post#1 » by jredsaz » Sat Apr 12, 2025 1:26 am

Rockets receive Kevin Durant
Rockets upgrade their primary scorer in Green for KD and don’t really dip into major assets.

Magic receive Jelen Green
Magic get a backcourt scorer and playmaker that they have been looking for.

Suns receive Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Wendell Carter Jr., Jock Landel, Cam Whitmore, 25 ORL 1st, 27 PHX 1st via HOU
Suns get pieces that fit around Booker and assets to make more moves going forward. I would prefer Smith Jr instead of Landel/Whitmore and possibly a different pick but not sure this board is about that value.

I personally don't want Durant, and he isn't worth the 27 pick.

Any Durant trade probably involves FVV, Landale, maybe Whitmore and some of the Suns picks.
Anything more than that is too much.
I think Durant goes to the Spurs or Wolves.

Why? FVV is more important to winning in Houston right now than Green. They signed Green to his current contract in order to trade him. Otherwise, that’s exactly what’s getting sent.

I’m aware you’re against a Durant path but just on value what would you consider instead of the ‘27 pick?

I can see the reason why each team would do this.

Not really against this but can also be convinced to keep the powder dry vs trading for KD but the big issue is I don't think this works financially for Houston

Rockets would need to have FVV opt out and extend him at a lower number - which I believe is their plan. Rockets are too successful with him running the show not to keep him around but at the same time his cap number is crazy high for his production. Don’t you think so?

The 2025 ORL 1st is included and maybe that makes people feel like it’s unlikely to be included in this scenario so a future ORL first could be included instead.

Is Jalen Green (edit) really a "playmaker"? Honest question...I'd be a lot more interested in FVV or even Reed for ORL

Jalen Green is more of a scorer for sure. I’d peg Orlando as outside the ranks of immediate contender so I thought a young guard who can help increase scoring punch immediately but continue to develop is a better approach than trading for FVV. Reed could be an option but I feel like he might be a little too far away. But fair, I could see both as a good fit in ORL.

Next year is a team option, not a player option, for FVV. Most likely Houston will opt out and renegotiate with him on a multi year deal on a much lower contract.

Personally I'm only interested in KD if he's available for pennies on the dollar. So the max I would give up for him 1 PHX pick and a couple of the fringe role players that we don't need. I don't ever see the Suns agreeing to that, and they can 100% get a better deal from another team, which is why I'm all the way out on even entertaining KD to Rockets suggestions.

I mean thanks for the clarification  but we agree on the outcome. The FVV overpay worked out great for both parties. When they signed the deal both sides understood that this last season wouldn’t be fully guaranteed.

And that’s excellent. Maybe he goes elsewhere.
