Milwaukee gets a reliable shooter in the backcourt.

DAL trades: Daniel Gafford
in: Bobby Portis
Dallas swaps Gafford for a 4/5 that can offer a very different look from Lively and should be a reasonably good fit with AD.

PHX trades: Grayson Allen
in: Daniel Gafford
Phoenix gets a center who is an upgrade over Richards (now they have a reasonable center rotation of Gafford/Richards/Oso) and drops a little bit of money.

Hope Dallas just takes Grayson here?

Send Powell to a third team to avoid first apron hard cap, Lively/AD/PJ is a good enough big rotation.

Bucks have been able to rotate "reliable shooters" pretty easily since Grayson was traded, don't see it being a more needed part than our only big off the bench.

I like Portis for DAL big man rotation...in the same way I have offered Wendell Carter...either of them can play with AD or Lively and function in a complementary fashion.

I think Portis might be more valuable to MIL than Allen - otherwise good one!

With Kyrie out until at least Christmas, Dallas has too many guard/creation needs to be trading for another big. Allen is probably a better get here, but i dont even like him for them. They need a Sexton like player to hold them over (or just Sexton)

AJ green has been a great young shooter for Bucks and Bobby Portis is a fan favorite. So this trade does make sense especially if they let brook walk

This doesn't preclude that kind of deal at all. Especially if it is Sexton, we dont want Gafford at all.

Bucks already have 5 guards they like in Dame/Porter/Trent/Green/Rollins. Why should they want to add another at the expense of their only reliable backup big?

Because only Dame is a starting caliber guy atm? I know some of these guys have really picked up in the second half of the season, but earlier in the season there were rumors Portis was being shopped. My assumption was that it would be part of a broader effort to reshape the roster around Dame and Giannis and Allen seems like a nice fit because he at least competes defensively, isn't horribly undersized, and has a lot of gravity. But clearly Bucks fans prefer to keep Porris and that seems reasonable.

Assuming this isn't a sign & trade and means that Bobby is picking up his $13 million player option, where's the asset coming back to Milwaukee to take on Allen's $54 million over the next 3-years? Phoenix would obviously jump at this just to dump salary (Gafford is younger and a better contract), but the Bucks have to have some additional compensation here.

Would much rather have Allen than Portis. He's locked into a good contract and he's the better player. No reason at all for the Bucks to be in here.

As a bucks fan, I think they are similarly impactful players, but I give the nod to Bobby being a more valuable player because his skillset’s a lot harder to find around the league.

Finding bigs who can shoot and board while being okay defensively in the right scheme is a lot harder to find than a 2 guard who can hit stand still jumpers, play a little bit better defense, and occasionally attack a close out.

Allen isn't just a guy who can hit stand still jumpers though. He hits them off the move. He hits most of them above the break. (75% of career attempts are there and not the corners) And he's a well above average shooter, which means defenses leave him far less giving additional spacing benefits.

And in addition to attacking closeouts he provides some secondary playmaking as well. Portis is a fine player. But just no chance one year of him is worth more than three of Allen and that's what's being asked of Dallas. And that's setting aside Dallas already has PJ Washington to be a more well-rounded version of what Portis would be here. And if they continue to cater to AD by limiting his center minutes that means they bring in another rotation center and well now Portis is the 5th big.

Nope, give me Allen as a clear upgrade to Klay and Christie at SG which is a much bigger need than a 4th big.

I think it needs a third team to take salary to balance, but if the foundation of Gafford for Allen works, that seems like a reasonable start to an offseason. I'd still like to see Dallas walk away with one of Jalen Smith, Bobby Portis, WCJ, Kristaps Porzingis, or Myles Turner. I think those guys all fit well with AD and allow him to play "power forward" without clogging up the paint too much (WCJ less so).
