MIL/SAC - Sabonis to Bucks

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Thu Apr 17, 2025 2:56 pm

Sacramento trades:
Domantas Sabonis

Milwaukee trades:
Brook Lopez
Kyle Kuzma
2031 unprotected 1st

Why for Sacramento? They blow it up and get an asset back for Sabonis who's value probably isn't incredible, while Kuzma returns to his natural role, on a team he was destined to a do a round on.

Why for Milwaukee? They hope a big 3 of Giannis, Lillard adn Sabonis works, and get out of a mistake in Kuzma, at the cost of pretty good pick.

Can't imagine this is all it would to get Sabonis.. even if Lopez wasn't a FA and able to be traded.

I think Sabonis is worth a lot more than this. I have the Milwaukee package as neutral at best. Plus, Lopez has to be a sign and trade which I think hard caps the Bucks?

In no circumstance should we be punished by having to watch Kuzma, DeRozan, and Lavine all play basketball together.

Kings can do much better than this for Sabonis, and Lopez is an expiring. Doesn't work financially.

Sacramento will get way better offers than a 37yo Lopez and one pick 6 years away

Charlotte should trade any 2025 pick we get that isn't #1 or #2 for him in a heartbeat, personally. Even if we fall all the way to #7, that blows this offer out of the water.

A player being S&T'ed from Milwaukee to Sacramento, hard caps Sacramento not Milwaukee.

Milwaukee would be hard capped at the second apron if they did this trade, from aggregating and/or from the outgoing sign and trade. They can probably stay under the second apron and do it though..

But this is really bad value for Sac. I’m not too sure if there’s even a three team Dame/Sabonis based deal that could be made. But I guess Dame+2031 first for Sabonis and Kuzma (or Portis if he opts in) for some decent guard seems possible to me if Milwaukee was trying to get younger and liked the Sabonis/G fit.

Yeah I messed this up, but I think you can get there with Kuzma, Connaughton (he seems washed and should opt in to 9 mil) and then a 2 mil contracts or two. Portis assumingly opts out or opts in just to stay in Milwaukee in a way that would be rude to trade him.

I'm bearish on Sabonis value overall as high paid player, not fitting the modern 3 and D mold, and nobody believes in playoffs.

Valuewise, I don’t think Milwaukee can get there without Giannis or Dame? Salary wise, I’m sure they can cobble stuff together, but the gap from Kuzma to Sabonis is just massive.

If you’re bearish on Sabonis’s value, and an outlier in doing so, it’s probably best to admit a deal just isn’t working there.

2031 unprotected is a good pick, I don't see 37 year old Giannis playing like 37 year old Curry, or he's long gone in FA.

Just from a practical standpoint, the next Kings' GM isn't going to have the job security to trade their best piece for a pick 6 years away.

Sure, it’s a value piece. But it’s not enough for Sabonis.

It's just a bad swap. What's Sacramento going to do with Dame, Lavine, DDR, etc? Gotta find the 3rd team that Dame goes to, and then work it from there.

But also, it's a terrible time to shop Dame with the DVT issue still unresolved.

Sabonis shouldn't be the guy the kings are trading. Demar Derozan is the odd man out as far as I am concerned. He just isn't a great fit with so many ball handlers on the kings roster, and he wants to Iso so often that he takes the rest of the kings out of the flow of the offense.

Trading Derozan to a team that has a decent defensive big and needs a scorer like Derozan is the right direction for the kings.
