SAS - Sacramento - Dallas
Sacramento trade: Sabonis, Derozan
Sacramento receive: Gafford, Castle, Vassell, Martin
SAS trade: Vassell, Castle
SAS receive: Sabonis
Dallas trade: Gafford, Martin
Dallas receive: Derozan
Why for Sacramento: Pull the inverse of the original Hali-Sabonis trade and start over w/ Castle/Murray?
Why for SAS: Fox had great synergy w/ sabonis. Wemby will more than cover sabonis' weakness on D
Why for Dallas: add a playmaker
Add pick(s) as needed? made it a 3 team even though its 2 separate trades because i suspect some picks might move around but i'm not sure in which direction

I can't imagine the Spurs fans going for this.

Re: SAS - Sacramento - Dallas
If the Kings manage to get Castle from the Spurs, I'm 100% all in.
My guess is based on our last two deals with the Spurs, we get Vassell, Barnes, a smokey rack of ribs, and a few 2nds 5 years from now

Joking aside, yes obviously, smash accept no take backs. Our team is going nowhere in a hurry. Castle-Keon-Murray would be fun to watch. Ship off Lavine/Monk anywhere that will have them.
Also how funny would it be to watch the 22/23 Sacramento Kings + Wemby/Flagg go win a title.

Go back and re-read the DeAaron Fox trade thread where most Kings fans were trying to tell the Spurs how no Castle meant no deal, and how many picks would be necessary. That thread is quite funny in hindsight, unintended comedy. Bottom line, Spurs aren't moving Castle, as Kings FO quickly learned.

Spurs got the Bulls to add LaVine. Unless there’s a third party they’d have to give up more value than the Fox deal. Maybe both picks instead of Castle?

To be fair, any competent organization tells Spurs to kick rocks. They had 1.5 years left of Fox control and didn't need to panic. Fans aren't wrong that we have a trash GM/Owner who preferred LaVine over a decent haul.

I think Sabonis is worth a good amount more than Fox was. And SAS still paid a good amount for Fox.
If you think Sabonis/Wemby can work and compliment each other, it shouldn’t be a deal breaker
But also think SAS has at least one lottery pick and owns a few extra picks and could make a really strong offer while keeping Castle out of it?
Say they offer their own 2025 first, 2026 SA first, 2027 swap option (Atl for SAS), 2028 SA first, 2030 SA first. And can give SAC their 2031 swap back..
Feels like a strong offer..

sure for Dallas, but not sure about the bigger deal and Kings don't make deal with Dallas without making the one with San Antonio first.

ya thats why i think sabonis can fetch castle when fox didnt. Also i'm not convinced fox/castle is a good fit together. long term, i think spurs are better off turning castle into a 3rd star whether that be sabonis or someone else

All of that was known at the time of the trade: the time remaining on the contract, Fox intention to sign with Spurs only, and the track record of both FO. Could the Kings have gotten a bit more in return? Probably a little... say the picks and players Spurs sent to the Bulls (Bulls 25 + Tre Jones + Zach Collins) plus maybe some other piece (Keldon Johnson?), but not much more. Overall there were no surprises, Kings fans just let their hopes cloud their reason.

Spurs don't need a center who makes near max money and doesn't play defense, they need a back up rim protector and wing defense / shooting. That kind of package is outright delusional.

TBH, I would rather ask the Mavs for Gafford's price tag, much more reasonable target.

Let's lay off the accusations of delusions and hopes. Unless we are also going to address them to our own posts, which we have not been to date. You can make your larger points without these little non sequitors please.

Isn't there an argument when you have arguably the best defender in the game that you can afford to sacrifice a little defense for offense at the center position?

Issue here is Dallas doesn't want to part him out. Then you get to value. He has one year left and he's either a below average starter or great bench big. Which makes his trade value relatively small. Dallas benefits more from him on court than trading him for 4 2nds or whatever he is worth.
Now if the Spurs have a useful player they are willing to move, or can route their futures to a 3rd team that would rather have than than Gafford, maybe.
But hard to see a deal, because he's worth more on court than in trade and Dallas is in win now mode, even if they aren't very good.

Yeah, SAS is one of my favorite landing spots for Gafford if Dallas does move him.
Still think I’d rather see Dallas “push all in” (trade Lively and extend Gafford, assuming Lively has the justify that direction).. but Gafford feels like a great fit for SAS.

Yeah, I agree with you. I would trade Castle for Sabonis to keep the future picks and flexibility.
Just meant SAS can overpay without including Castle if they want to hold on to him.
Don’t think Sabonis calls for everything I listed, just the idea of overpaying..

Re: SAS - Sacramento - Dallas
I don't have a high opinion of Sabonis as a contending piece. I wouldn't want him on the Spurs considering their roster and the draft board, the Spurs should be looking into clearing up their guard situation. Trading for a bad fit doesn't really help though. And yes, Sabonis is a bad fit. Just because Wemby can theoretically defend well enough to hide Sabonis doesn't make the fit good. It's like how you can put shooters and defenders around DeRozan but will still have a worse result than if you swapped DeRozan out for someone without his flaws.
