Will anyone have cap space besides BKN this summer?

BKN is the only team that’s guaranteed to have cap space this summer.
Detroit might depending what they do with Beasley, THJ and Shroeder but it’s not certain.
What a horrific summer coming for UFAs. Wonder if we see a bunch of SnT moves this year?

That’s it right now. But some teams have TPE’s they might be able to use and some teams might be able to swing a multi team trade to clear space, or to work a salary slot they could take someone into with the trade. As teams lose players to free agency, they might work it into an outgoing sign and trade and bring someone back in so long as they don’t have 2nd apron concerns.
But yeah, Brooklyn and Detroit is mostly it.

It has been a while since one team had a monopoly on cap space.
If you were appointed GM of the Nets how would you use that space this Summer?

I'd trade Claxton/Johnson and a bunch of first round picks for Jonathan Kuminga in a sign and trade

BKN has a huge in on a Giannis deal.

No they don’t. Pointless to trade a big haul for Giannis and carry the deadweight of Dame. Maybe if Giannis was 25 you find a way and do it, but no way to build around him at this age if you have to be shackled to Dame too.

Plus, we already know that this duo doesn't work well together. And for teams, they don't trade severely injured stars, since insurance only covers salary for the team who had the player when the injury happened. Dame Would Never be traded while injured.

It's not just the absence of under the cap teams, it's the number of over, or just below, the tax teams that are going to make the logistics of shedding salary difficult.

Is this Kuminga from some alternate reality where he's a superstar?

Lol Why would we do that when we can simply sign him to a RFA offer sheet with provisions?

To help Steph win another ring of course

Hope for luck in the lotto and trade for Giannis. Then use the rest of that stuff for another star (Trae, Melo or Booker?) then fill the roster with win now rookies off the bench, Giannis, CamJo and Claxton is a great frontcourt to begin with.

Plus nobody else has the space to sign him to a sheet. I don’t see Detroit doing it based on their roster.

I think that Giannis trade is a pipe dream (unless they win the lottery), then there's the fact that they overpaid to get their picks back, I guess with the intention of using them, using both this and the next Draft to pick as high as possible = being terrible. Trade Claxton and Cam for the best deals and I would move the cap space to a better crop of FA in 2026 of course in exchange for assets.. the Rozier/Connaughton etc... I would even accept Beal in exchange for all the picks, Suns prospects (including what they get from the KD trade) if they are desperate enough.. example..
KD to HOUSTON (or Dallas?)
SUNS FRP (9) + Beal to + Whitmore + Future FRP to NETS
FVV/Cam Johnson/J. Smith to SUNS

That Beal contract is brutal.
Maybe rope in another team and send him somewhere else.
Perhaps the Nets would consider Jordan Poole if the Wizards take Beal back.
Turning Claxton and Cam into pick 9, Whitmore, and Poole might make more sense.

Detroit would have been able to free up 25M in cap space although if/when Cade is named in the All-NBA team his impending contract bumps up significantly and we will be closer to 15M I suspect (I'm not sure of the exact figures so happy to be corrected here).

Would be around a $7.75m difference. From $38.7ish to $46.4ish.
Good point.

Nico, you need to worry about Dallas.
