Heat/Lakers Ware/Reaves( need Help) questions

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Sat May 3, 2025 8:17 am

The basis of the trade is Reaves for Ware.
P.Riley is too old (and the Heat aren't going that way) to rebuild.
They obviously need another playmaker alongside Herro, as they're too easy to stop.

Are there several businesses that could operate?

Reaves/Hachimura for Wiggins/Ware

Or

Reaves for Ware/Anderson..

Miami gets the best player right now, and the LAKERS get the best fit.(Reaves is in the same timeline as Bam/Herro)
Ware is athletic, young, blocks shots, and can even stretch the floor. On paper, is he the perfect long-term fit for Luka?

I guess the LAKERS should have value, due to cost control and Ware's youth...what value?
Does the 2031 FRP close the potential gap?

Should Knecht and a 3rd team be added to prepare the HEAT for the contest?

Example..

Rozier/Robinson/Jazquez+ Unprotect FRP 27(Lakers)/Lakers31(und)+ Future FRP Heat to JAZZ

Reaves/Markkanen to HEAT

Herro/Reaves/Wiggins/Lauri/Bam
Davion/Larsson/Highsmith/Jovic/Love

Ware/Kyle to LAKERS

make it bigger and Kyle/Knecht/Milton+ Swap(Lakers) to Jazz and the LAKERS get Sexton....

Reaves is a bad fit in Miami next to Herro, I also think Lakers can get better value, or just extend him and have him as Luka's second guard, poor man's Kyrie/Brunson.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

I understand it's not a perfect fit, but Reaves has worked decently alongside Luka and the Heat have much better defenders to cover them (Davion/Wiggins/Highsmith/Adebayo) and considering the Heat's idea was to pair Herro with Rozier

Miami isn't dealing Ware for Reaves.
Herro and Reaves would be a defensive sieve.

The Lakers will want players who can win now. I like Ware's potential, but he is not a win now player and Miami will overvalue him as his upside is variability that they badly need. I think the Lakers would be very interested in Davion Mitchell if the price was right. They clearly need point of attack defense, especially against guards. Davion being a free agent makes that murky though. Is there a sign and trade that would make sense? I don't think the Lakers have space to sign him outright, but I haven't checked.

I think Keon Ellis could be an interesting alternative for the Lakers as well.

It would be Reaves + a FRP (which in this scenario, helps them pay Lauri). They're also getting out of Kyle's future money. Reaves is bigger and younger, a worse defender than Rozier. For the Heat, they invested a FRP to put him next to Herro. Also, I wouldn't consider Reaves a bad defender (more like average). The LAKERS' problem was more about not having a playable defensive guard or a center to cover them. The Heat don't have that problem with Davion (elite defender at his position), Bam (top DPOY candidate), and several above-average defensive wings (Wiggins/Highsmith/Jazquez/Larsson...).

I know the media thinks the Heat are going for KD or other stars.
I'd expect them to go for another developmental year, maybe if the KD price is really cheap, but event then it will require a lot of cap gymnastics, so I doubt it.

They have a young core in Ware/Herro/Bam, and some interesting projects in Jovic, Pelle and Jaquez. Hopefully they re-sign Davion, who fits perfectly next to Herro in the backcourt. They posted a +5.7 net rating in 642 minutes together, and in general, Ware/Bam/Herro/Davion lineups were mostly positive.

I don't see them trading Ware.
He's a freak athlete with incredible physical tools and measurements, while also being a versatile, skilled player with a ton of upside.

I’d like to see them make moves that improve flexibility, moving on from Wiggins, Terry, and Duncan, who aren’t part of the future and don’t provide enough value for their contracts. Jaquez might be up for grabs if someone wants to buy low.

I really doubt they go for win now moves, which don't move the needle enough. More likely, they’ll save assets, improve cap flexibility, duck the tax, and keep developing the roster. If everything goes wrong, they still have their pick next year. And if they end up around the 5/6 seed, a lot of these young players could increase their trade value for a real difference maker down the line.

Reaves/Herro backcourt is just DOA...two excellent players, terrible fit...good defenders in the frontcourt won't be enough to account for them.

Agreed.

Unless Reaves can be packaged in a trade that brings back a truly difference-making center in the Derrick Lively mold, I think the Lakers are better off keeping him as the long-term #2 offensive option who can run the offense while Luka sits and share the floor with Luka as a competent off-ball scorer.

This is a pretty easy no for Miami

I'll have to pay more attention. Reaves' individual defense didn't seem that terrible to me.
