Stupid take? Giannis to Denver for whatever it takes minus Jokic (and ideally AG)

Post#1 » by Rubios » Sat May 3, 2025 11:41 am

Denver's team is a disaster. A -very- good Murray game in 3 years shouldn't change any diagnosis.

I can't think of two current players amplifying each other better than Jokic + Giannis.
Their playing is so different & complementary that they wouldn't need to give up anything from their game to make room for the other.
Both are the perfect team mates to make their counterpart shine. This convo would be beyond unreal.

I wouldn't expect any ego clashes, either: besides their personalities, both of them have plenty of individual hardware and achievements.
Pairing two top 3 players (arguably 1 & 2, even) implies forgetting about another MVP. Don't think they care. They want to win. They want chips.

Jokic, Giannis, AG + outlets/veteran minimums/players willing to significantly lower their salary to play alongside these two and chase a ring...
Seems enough to become a top of the food chain contender.

Plus, any player knows that spending a couple years with Jokic would make him look much better and raise his value, eventually earning a much better offer from another team than he could get otherwise. So attracting players seems fairly easy IMO.

I believe that a team built around Jokic doesn't need that much talent. It needs players with high IQ to make the right reads, a couple decent C&Sers and some tough defenders.

Thoughts? Have I gone crazy?

Naw, we want Jokic in Milwaukee instead. We’ll offer you Kuzma and Lopez and a protected pick 10 years in the future

What do the Nuggets realically have to offer to get Giannis? Jamaal Murray? Aaron Gordon? Michael Porter Jr? Maybe a 1st round pick? Wake up and smell reality. Those assets wouldn't even get you someone like JA Morant or Lamelo Ball, let alone a top 3 player in the NBA in Giannis.

I think Houston and OKC are the two teams that have the ability to trade for this duo if they wanted to play together.

Dont think Houston has enough for both. OKC yes but it would involve shai going out i think. Spurs maybe if they get a high lotto pick this draft and trades wemby too

yea the way to do it would be to sell off murray/mpj/ag (giannis would just have to take his roll on D) and then hope the returned haul gets you close. basically impossible to pull off, even if you did it's probably less than okc/hou

If GA becomes available there are few teams in the league with less to offer than DEN: no top end youth, few if any picks…and you want to keep AG off the table. For a top 5 player.

You want a top 5 player for nothing. Not going to happen.

If DEN is looking to upgrade (and they should be), you will need to drastically lower your expectations considering the lack of DEN assets.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Yeah, I didn’t want to suggest trading Wemby and have 10 notifications.

Not an idea that really has any chance of happening in general.
