Bane for Sharpe

Post#1 » by esvl » Fri May 9, 2025 2:59 am

Sharpe
Ayton

for

Bane
Konchar

POR would get an established young wing, who is a borderline star, on a long term contact. Someone to build around and progress to the next level.

MEM would exchange the elite shooting, supplemented with secondary playmaking snd leadership, for elite athleticism suitable next to Ja.

This is the type of trade the Blazers need to get to the playoffs ala the Pistons this year. Bane is better than Harris or THJ too.

Sharpe may be better than Bane but I don’t know that he will affect winning or have that competive edge. Sharpe seems a lot like Lavine.

I am a big SS fan but it would be hard to say no to this and POR needs shooting.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

While I think it is more likely Bane stays the better player, I’m still willing to gamble on Sharpe’s upside.

Interesting trade proposal.

It would be hard for Portland to turn this down for Bane would step into the Wesley Matthews role in
Portland. It would be the trade that gets Portland back into the playoffs

Easy yes as a Portland fan.

I think Portland needs to add more value. Honestly Portland should be including their #10 pick this year.

Not sure it makes sense for Memphis.

I’m a huge Sharpe fan, and with the right coaching, he could be insane. But he’s coming along slower that I’d hoped which isn’t great, and you want shooting more than you want athleticism next to Morant.

Shocked a Grizzlies fan would suggest this TBH...
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Perhaps the Memphis coach could get more from Sharpe than Chauncey Billups

Maybe, but a risky bet after 3 years. He really needed to show a bit more by now, especially with the opportunity he has, with that team not really having a true guy.

But man…the potential is there.

To be fair, this was really his first full season with expectations and opportunity. Rookie year he was 19 and coming off essentially a season of no competitive basketball sitting out at Kentucky, and then hurt for a big chunk of his second season.

But I agree you would hope to have seen a bit more progress. In particular the 3pt shooting was alarming. And a bit surprising, considering how smooth his stroke is, and with pretty good ft percentages.

That’s fair, I had forgotten about him being injured in college.

Players do still take massive steps after 3 years, of course it happens, and he has the potential to make it happen. But for every late bloomer, there are tons of z Gerald Green’s. It’s a risk, but could pay off.

I wanted the Pacers to draft Sharpe so bad when he was coming out. We ended up with Mathurin, so worked out, but man, thinking of Sharpe running with Haliburton would be WILD.

Only the Memphis board members would know who would be the best partner for Ja but
Sharpe is an elite athlete and would play next season at age 22.

From Portland's POV, Bane is 5 years older and would be a stabilizing influence for Scoot
Henderson. Portland would likely be a playoff team if they added Bane to go with Camara,
Deni and DC.

As a third party, I would give significantly more for the Memphis package. Multiple unprotected picks more.

I think the Grizzlies say no. While I think it's time for them to break up the JJJ/Ja Morant/Bane core, I'm not sure they should be doing for this package. I think other teams will offer a bit more.

This is vastly underrating Bane and putting a lot of stock in the variance of Sharpe.

That said, Bane really fits the culture of Portland.

This one is tough for this Blazers fan. I think the value is really good for us. The struggle for me is Portland still needs that "star" to build around. I'm not at all saying Sharpe is that guy, but at least at 22, there's still a lot of room for growth to be able to trick ourselves in to thinking that might be the case, as there have been flashes. And with Bane, he's obviously better than Sharpe is. But I don't think he's #1 scorer on a contender, and the upside at 27 to get there is likely limited. Do we end up going too far too fast, and cap ourselves out as maybe a 2nd round team? At the same time, I LOVE a wing trio of Bane, Deni and Camara.
I too am surprised a Memphis fan would propose this, but can see the logic in also banking on upside. I think I'd probably say yes, ultimately, and just enjoy runs from a gritty team that might not net a title, but would likely be a fun squad to watch, and a very annoying team for others to face.

There are not many wings in the league who are comparable to Bane and can, correspondingly, become a centrepiece in return package.

PDX would have to do this.

That being said - Ja throwing lobs to Sharpe would be must-see-TV.
