Okoro to UTA

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Sat May 10, 2025 3:15 am

We see a Utah-Cleveland deal almost every season. This year's helps Cleveland deal with Mobley's salary increase and gets Utah a young wing.

CLE trades: Isaac Okoro (into UTA MLE)
UTA trades: cash?

Cleveland saves money with Mobley's raise, this hopefully helps them keep more critical players. Utah has such a massive roster imbalance. Okoro isn't some world-beater, he isn't going to win the game 10 additional games, but he can give us useful minutes and might be a bench piece long-term.

This is one of those trade proposals that will provoke a wide array of responses from Cavs fans.

Hard nosed defenders are always loved, so I get it.

I haven't seen a proposal involving the Cavaliers that didn't.

Probably due to the fact that, when healthy, many of us feel like we can at least get to the Finals as constructed.

Cleveland is still in 2nd apron after this.. money savings is huge of course but this doesnt change their outlook for next year besides their bench becoming more shallow?

If Boston loses Porzingis and Cleveland loses Okoro due to the new CBA, I'd say Cleveland has come out ahead of their biggest rival in the East.

It would be, for sure, but moving Okoro is something like $36 million in savings?

Don't get it for Utah, but Cleveland should absolutely take the savings here.

We have one player that can competently play at the 3, and that is Lauri. I think Okoro fills a need even if he's not some spectacular player. Reasonable price, young enough he might be part of the future.

Cleveland doesn’t do this until after they know what’s happening with Jerome and Merrill next year. If they lose both of them they can’t also trade Okoro for nobody.

But if the Cavs retain those guys (and maybe resign Javonte Green), Okoro is pricey for what the Cavs need him for.

We could make Ainge look really good including Detroit.

Detroit Out: Fontecchio and Toronto 2nd
Detroit In: Okoro

Utah Out: Cash to Cleveland
Utah In: Fontecchio Toronto 2nd

Cleveland Out: Okoro
Cleveland In: Cash

Ainge traded Fontecchio for a very early 2nd, and then a couple of years later he is paid an early 2nd to take on Fontecchio. Classic Weaver move, he is not in Detroit anymore, but if Detroit renounces Schroder/THJr/Beasley, to get cap space and go after someone else (they shouldn't) this could be a good buy low for Detroit, considering Okoro is familiar with JB and his skillset would be really good for us.

I'd be pretty happy to take Fontecchio back and see if he looks good again in Hardy's system. I quite liked him, I was surprised he didn't work out in Detroit.

He didn't work under JB. He was pretty good in Monty Williams system.

With how many young players and picks the Jazz have I have a hard time seeing them just bringing in players while not sending out any players.

Seconded.

Someone got to go, and I'd rather keep Jerome.

Whether or not Jerome stays isn't entirely up to the Cavs.

I am a Cavs fan that has no issue trading anyone on the roster. I get into some trouble at times because of that. Yes, I do think this team is really, really good. They ran into some terrible injury luck in this series, and maybe their players are injury-prone, but I to think the Cavs are Finals-good at this point. Boston will inevitably lose a key contributor next year. If the Cavs stay healthy, maybe they can make a run.
