#11 For Sale

Usually I feel like the forum quickly gets flooded by teams looking to trade their pick, after not getting in to the top 4. But I guess I'll kick that off by saying it feels highly unlikely Portland keeps the 11th pick. So...best offers. As in a previous thread I made, not "win now" mode, but definitely more in complete for play offs/play in over draft someone at 11 mode.

Hm I’d want OKC to move up into that range if they can.

What positions is Portland looking for?

I was going to post the Portland write-up but their fans are all-in on winning it seems, which is wild to me.

While you may think Portland is going to try to win, they are in the worst division in basketball in trying to win. OKC/Denver/Minnesota are head-and-shoulders above Portland, and the only thing closing the gap is a superstar joining Portland. The idea that they should try hard to be like Sacramento doesn't make sense. They should be picking at #11

Here is my trade:

#11 for #15, Portland 1st returned, 2 2nds
#15, #24, 3 2nds for #11
2026 POR 1st for #24, 1 2nd

Portland moves back but frees up their 1st in order to make a potential move to win-now, which their fans adore.
OKC gets their guy.
Chicago cashes out on a lotto-protected 1st that may never convey.

Lauri for Grant, filler, 11, future 1st.

Portland fans are not all-in on trying to win, but the front office gives us no hope that they'll execute a proper rebuild and even believes they have a competitive roster already. It's a bleak situation.

Done. You could probably take out the 2029 1st and I'd still do it.

I see that lol. I think Utah fans are wrong, and Portland fans are right to prefer the rebuild.

I wouldn't.

We are seeing the results of not commiting to the tank fully. We ended up with late lottery picks for two years then committed to it and tanked Lauri's value in the process. When you only tank one year your chances of a #1 pick are low. The odds that the player we take is a franchise caliber player are low, it's time to move Lauri.

The Jazz secured the worst record with Lauri on the team. I have no doubt that they can do so next season (and end up with the fifth pick again).

And then what? We are good in five seasons and Lauri is 33? The timelines don't line up at all. It is time to call it.

Where does the league want us to send the pick to?

Maybe if we're good, they will reward with the #4 pick in the 2026 draft

If the Jazz end up with the worst record and the fifth pick again, I'd prefer to have not sold Lauri for a pittance.

A lottery pick and future first is not a pittance.

We're not getting a game changer with a low lottery pick this year. The Blazers with Markannen are more likely than not a playoff team next season. You've said that you'd do it without the 2029 pick. And the Jazz have to take on one of the worst contracts in the league for three more years to come. I'm trying to see whatever upside you're seeing, but I just don't see anything more of a fool's hope of a chance at getting a player anywhere near as good as Lauri as a result. We'll have to agree to vehemently disagree.

I don't think Portland led by Avdija and Lauri is much - if any - better than Utah has been without Lauri. So I see #11 this year, and a marginally better chance at the number one pick (or two top-4 picks) in 2026. But yes, it's good that there are different perspectives :D
