What does San Antonio do.

Post#1 » by Sactowndog » Tue May 13, 2025 12:15 am

The Spurs are in an interesting spot as

Fox/Harper/Castle are not a great fit. Harper is basically a larger and maybe not as quick Fox.

Trade Castle? He is young healthy and on the same timeline as Wemby.

Trade down from 2: they could trade down from 2 but in a 2 man draft they aren’t likely to get value. But Harper is younger and on Wemby’s timeline.

Trade Fox: with only a year left on his contract and Klutch as his agent he could be hard to trade.

Trade Harper to the Pels. Even if they effectively hand SA Giannis, the Pels need to do something and Harper is perfect for us.

Use the 2nd pick in the draft + additional assets without giving up Stephen Castle to get Giannis.

Draft or trade, then do some fiddling with lukas agent to get him to sign there after the season. Move fox for whatever they can get, heck a package might move them up to #1 since nico only got like 2 years more to win it all and need a pg

2, Castle, and matching salary (pretty sure Keldon and Barnes is sufficient?) for Giannis sounds about right.

1) See if Dallas is willing to trade down for a reasonable package. Very unlikely, but Harper is a terrific fit, and depending on the other pieces, they might end up in a position to improve their roster around Davis.

2) When that doesn't work, see if any team in the top 5-7 is willing to trade a lot to move up. Take the assets and use the lower pick on one of the complimentary players who seem all over the middle of the lottery.

3) Draft Harper or Bailey if he's your guy and go into the year to see how it works. If things look good around the deadline, make a move. If they don't, ride out the rest of the year and look to make a big trade.

4) Don't trade for Giannis, basically no matter what. But look into a Castle, SAS/ATL 26, SAS/BOS 28 and SAS/MIN/DAL30 package and see what you can get.

I get it’s a big name but this isn’t fantasy. Giannis is a defensive stud who shots 22% from 3.

Let’s assume they get Giannis.
Giannis 22%
Wemby 35.2%
Fox 31.0% (injured)
Castle 28.5%

Giannis needs to be surrounded by shooters and San Antonio needs shooters. SA might be the worst fit possible for Giannis.

Lmao don’t fool yourself

They will get 2 snipers around a Wemby/Giannis/Fox big 3.

Wemby and Fox are fine from long distance too. Also, Giannis isn’t some slow paint trodding big.

He can take one dribble from the 3 point line and be at the rim. The box score won’t tell you this, but any scout would tell you this matters when thinking of spacing.

Would the Pels trade 7 plus Trey Murphy for Harper?

I seem to remember a lot of Fox can’t shoot comments when he was at Sac.

I mean what would you call reasonable? Understand that in drafts with a similar prospect as Flagg, it cost 3 additional unprotected 1sts. I'm guessing to you that's unreasonable(I wouldn't make that deal as the Spurs either). But I don't think Dallas is taking Sochan and a protected future 1st as being remotely interesting.

So curious where between those you would fall.

I disagree, Giannis would be a tremendous fit in San Antonio.

It's not that difficult to find shooters in today's NBA. Wemby and Giannis are an almost perfect fit together and their defense would be absolutely stifling.

That defense will lead to lots of fast breaks where Fox excels. Not to mention, add how good Giannis is in the open court.

There should be plenty of ways to e.g. poach Grayson Allen from the Suns, or add a Trent Jr or someone of that ilk. They only need to be somewhat passable of defense considering the front court Spurs will be rolling out.
