D. White to Blazers

How off is this?
Blazers in:
Derrick White (28.1, 30.3, 32.6, 34.8PO)
X Tillman (2.5)
Why? Upgrade PG position as they seem intent on trying to build a winning culture. Blazers badly need defense at the guard position as they have it already at the forward and center positions. Tillman is here just for additional salary relief for the Celtics.
Celtics in:
Simons (26.7)
11th pick
2029 first (worst of Blazers, Celtics, Bucks)
Why? Celtics look to cut costs, which they were already likely to do and more so now with Tatum likely being out most if not all of 2026 season. In exchange, they still get an expiring Simons who fits in the 3 point culture (but a clear defensive downgrade), a late lotto pick, and a future pick (likely a little subpar, but you never know with injuries to Celtics, Giannis maybe moving, and Portland being Portland).

How much would the bid need to be increased by Portland to be in that conversation? I imagine the only pick truly off limits would be the 2029 best of pick (Bucks, Blazers, Celtics) unless it is protected.

First thing is what exactly are the Blazers doing trading assets for a win-now player who is the type of player who is the finishing touch on a title contender?
Blazers still are missing a 1st option.
Here are deals you could compare to.
Sheppard + Smith + Pick(s)
Monk + Pick
#7 + CJ
Ivey + Filler
Jovic + JJJ + 2 1sts
Goga + Black + #16 + Future 1st
Not sure exactly of these offers, but while Portland offer isn't bad or insulting, I think many of these teams would pay a bit more.

Finally.
This whole idea is strong headed. This team wins 40 games for a couple years and then has to rebuild properly.

Also, that 2029 pick is looking juicy. That's where Portland needs to be targeting.
Utah may have something but still rebuilding
OKC is going to have difficult decisions to make as soon as next year, let alone 3 years later
Minnesota will have prime/peak ANT
Jokic will be in his mid-30s
White will be expiring around 2029

What about Scoot? You move Simons to give Scoot and Sharpe the reins right? Why take White? I love the fit next to Toumani and Deni but it doesn't make sense unless you have follow up moves. Plus i think he's too old for the core anyways. White is a guy you trade for as a last piece, not part of a rebuild.

I’m baffled and genuinely confused.
When tf did Simons turn into an all-star? Dude is one of the worst defenders in the league, one dimensional and his team is better when he’s off the court. He’s an expiring and just two seasons ago was considered “unmovable”.
What has Simons done to warrant these kinds of return?
Supply and demand? Serious question.

If you followed the conversation, I am talking about trades for Derrick White

Blazers seem intent on building towards being the 2004 Pistons where they have a defensive identity and no true star. White is a clear upgrade over Scoot IMO, while we still have Scoot developing behind him. If he ever finally looks like “the guy,” then White should be easy enough to send elsewhere for a good return. As much as people want Scoot to be a star, I think it is more likely he is another Reggie Jackson (not ruling out the idea of him being a star), Outside of landing a legit star, I think Blazers biggest need is a guard who can actually defend without being a liability on offense. Blazers would have at least 1 high level defender at 4 of the 5 positions after such a trade (if Blazers can make the value work).

The Derrick White conversation is interesting. At first glance, I would think he’s a guy Boston would want to keep. But on the other hand, he’s a smaller guard on the wrong side of 30 with a ton of playoff miles on him.
I could see - similar to the Marcus smart situation - selling him a year early to avoid selling him a year late.
But I think it would take a monster package

Yea maybe a good idea to sell high and take a page out of Bellecheck where you give up on a guy a year early rather than too late. Not sure pDX is the team to go after White though
