Lauri's market

With the Jazz's plan of tanking strategically for two years to get a superstar getting off to a bad start, the odds of Lauri still being good by the time the Jazz get another star are getting worse.
The Jazz obviously should have traded Lauri at the 2024 deadline when he had 2 years, $36m left on his contract and had just played at a star level for 1 and a half seasons. Since that deadline, Lauri has not been very good, a mostly average PF getting paid a max contract and with a ton of injuries. The question is how much of his poor play and injuries were caused by tanking vs. real injury issues.
Is any team still willing to offer a lot for Lauri at this point or is his value more like an expiring contract and a middling first round pick following these pretty bad last 15 months?

I personally have him as negative trade value. I wouldn't offer anything...

Any team with a reasonable chance of being a play in team with Lauri I'd accept a 2026 unprotected first attached to just about anything. Maybe some additional compensation if a piece of filler is particularly bad.

Lavine + a 26 kings 1st (top 2 protected?)
Vivek won't tank. Lauri is a nice fit in sac.

Sacramento is the exact team I have in mind. Id do that. I think LaVine can be flipped, too.
Edit: didnt see the protections. Zero interest in that case, none.

Id imagine kings are clueless enough to trade a potential #1 pick for a guy like Lauri.
The reality is this is exactly what they shouldn't do, but they'll double down on another bad contract to try and keep sabonis so we can fight for 10th seeds the next 2 years.

Yah, Sacramento shouldnt do it, they should be rebuilding (e.g. Sabonis for 4), but they won't.

I'm not interested in Holland because he can't shoot, and I'm not interested in Ivey because he is just another good but not great combo guard. We want picks, preferably even year picks. Or Detroit can offer Ausar and I'd listen because of the physical tools and defense, but I don't think they would do that.

I think Utah is done getting random platters of things for assets. Instead of three meh picks I expect them to focus on a few or maybe single high quality asset. Be that a young player like Ausar or an unprotected pick.

I would be looking hard at chronically mismanaged teams that might trade an unprotected 2026 pick for Lauri. I dont think we will get a compelling prospect, just someone like Holland who is extremely flawed (or like one of our own mediocre prospects).

Or even teams that might be an injury away from a bad season. All in on 2026

The big issue is that very few teams have an unencumbered 2026 1st to trade because of the Stepien rule. Teams star hunting traded 2025 and 2027 1sts. I would have to look, but I think it is already like this season where over half of the draft picks have either been traded outright, or in swaps.

There is still a market for Lauri, but price has gone down. Most logical teams are Detroit and Spurs, but at least Spurs try to go after Giannis first. So I do think Giannis and KD are traded before Lauri. If Spurs get Giannis I do expect price for Lauri to go down because there is no competition. So I wouldn't be surprised if Lauri starts with Utah.

Most I think I would go is Tobias, Holland and a 26 1st. There’s still a lot of risk there for us with him being on a max contract and playing like his old self again.

Markkanen+5(Knueppel?) for 2 + Keldon(or Vassell)/Barnes

Markkanen and #21 for #3 and PG13? That is, if Philly wants out of PG13's contract.

Or, we just tell Lauri to fake an injury all season and the Jazz pay for him to vacation wherever he wants.

Okay, but then Lauri will have three years left on his deal and will be pretty close to the end of his prime.
And if the Jazz fail to get a star again next year, the plan of keeping Lauri until they tank for a star will have failed completely.
