BOS Plays Mediator to the LA Teams

BOS gives: Jrue Holiday
BOS gets: Gave Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Drew Eubanks, 2nd rounders from LAL
Why? With Tatum likely out, turn Jrue into expiring money to ensure they at least duck the repeater tax in 26-27. They can make follow up moves to try and dump some of this expiring salary pupu platter as well for more immediate savings, which they likely do with these guys and Porzingis.
LAL gives: Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, 2nd rounders
LAL gets: Norm Powell
Why? They consolidate the useless expiring money to Vincent/Kleber to useful expiring money to Powell. Either gives them a more attractive salary filler to use in a deal for a big by including Powell as one good player vs. 2 **** players or they can keep Powell and use Knect as the trade bait like they tried to at the deadline if that works better.
LAC gives: Norm Powell, Drew Eubanks
LAC gets: Jrue Holiday
Why? Great on court fit next to Harden and on the timeline with Kawhi for nothing but Balmer's money. Quintessential glue guy type of player for a team like them. As the years go by on his contract and they start having picks to trade, he can become the salary filler in a deal to transition to a post Kawhi/Harden era.

Gets the job done of getting off Holiday long term but I would be really sad trading him for those players. Something like this probably has to be done though.

This is simply poor value for Clippers and not very good for the Celtics ether. Norman Powell is easily worth more than this. Maybe even a late lottery pick depending on the team. As for the Celtics, just why? They get way worse with no incentive. The Celtics are likely done contending for a while due to Tatum injury, but that doesn't mean settle for trash in order to move salary.

Same, the value gap between Jrue Holiday and three junk contracts is bigger than second rounders for me pretty clearly.
The big counter argument is there could be value offset with the back end of Jrue’s deal but count me in as an optimist on Jrue’s value.

If the Clippers will do that trade, I'm just taking Powell and Eubanks as the Celtics.

The Lakers just get a solid player in Norm Powell in exchange for their junk? How?

Jrue is a negative value comtract, he's valued as positive.

ITs odd. Boston doesn't get a positive value package back, but the Clippers pay one. Lakers inclusion here is throwing things off.

This seems like a common occurrence on this board where adding a 3rd team makes no sense and they simply siphon value.
If Boston is willing to trade Jrue and the Clippers are willing to trade Powell, Eubanks, 2nds, then why is a 3rd team needed in the first place?

Because BOS's goal here is saving money. Powell is a better player of course, but Vincent and Kleber have contracts that fit into more team's cap space and/or trade/free agent exceptions. Follow up deals to save money will be easier this way for BOS.

Powell makes less than the combination of Vincent/Kleber and holds a clear positive value. They could flip him for actual assets.

They don't need actual assets out of this. They need financial savings. Powell for filler salary plus minor assets could probably happen but BOS would just end up using those small assets to dump. Ends up being the same thing here where they essentially flip him to LAL for some 2nds.
I doubt they look to move Jrue or Porzingis for any value really. Just some combination of players that sheds $24M this year (duck 2nd apron) and $15-20M next year (26-27; to duck tax altogether). They'll just try to break their deals down into as many useless smaller contracts so they can attach all the second round picks in the world to them and clear the salary they need to. Maybe keep like $10-15M on the books for next year 26-27 since they can still duck the tax and that gives them something to use in trades.

Lakers should be cut, but with or w/o the Lakers it's too good for BOS, replacing 90/3 contract with 22M of playable expirings (Vincet was 20MPG backup on 50 wins team) + 2nds is treating as positive.
