Detroit sends: Jaden Ivey
Chicago sends: Coby White, #12

Why for Detroit? Get a floor spacing second option on offense that fits better with Cade and a lotto pick.
Why for Chicago? Move on from Coby White’s expiring to buy low on an injured explosive guard who was potentially a dicey fit in his current spot (it worked the last time they did it). Ivey could be a building block going forward.

*not really sure what appropriate Ivey value is—12 felt like it both may be too much but also slightly not enough? I don’t know.

Definitely a fair deal for Detroit.

Maybe it’s the homer in me that still doesn’t want to give up Ivey.

I think a huge factor would be what White is looking for as a next contract and what the pick would be used for.

There doesn’t seem to be an appealing prospect that could contribute right away in that range and the Pistons already have a ton of youth.

I’d try to send the pick and matching contracts to Houston for Smith jr or Eason.

I don't see how CHI is buying low by taking the guy coming off an injury. Yes some control via RFA but does Ivey come back and play well then the Bulls have to gamble on a large offer. They know what they've got in Coby White if he draws interest from other teams is a question mark, no league wide shortage of SG's or in the draft

I sure don't see why the Bulls have to give up #12 to take the less productive guy coming off an injury who has been hurt in the past

This is not buying low. This is the Bulls overpaying to get a guard who played only 30 games this past season. This trade is ether underestimating Coby White value or overestimating Jaden Ivery's value.

In my defense, I did acknowledge that I had no idea how to properly value Ivey.

Ivey is hard to value, similar to Ivey. A 22-year old 17/4/4 guard on league average efficiency is good. Some people look at his freak injury and say "He played 30 games!". Some people will look at his ceiling and say he is a better prospect than any player picked at #12 and his RFA status is more valuable than Coby's UFA status.

Just a difficult player to peg in terms of "what draft pick is he worth"?

Yeah I have this as buying quite high. I think Detroit would consider it for just 12 allowing Chicago to realize White's value elsewhere.

Ivey to Chicago

#12 to OKC
#15 + #24 to Detroit
Ivey to Chicago

Closer to fair without the pick imo Ivey's going to want to get paid after this year just like Coby.

Fair take.

Also agree that the OP is fair (or more than fair) value for Ivey.

But I wouldn't trade him because he still has that potential. I think he's the asset of the Pistons with the highest offensive upside outside of Cade, and the Pistons need that if they are going to jump from decent to relevant. I'm fine with playing out Ivey's 4th season and then dealing with him as an RFA.

That's the reason why if you're Detroit you don't trade him. You play him next season to have a better idea of what you have. He made tremendous improvements in key areas last season.

His defense was much improved and that's encouraging. He was a complete disaster on defense before, this season he was almost passable, he was still bad, don't get me wrong, but the improvement was noticeable. He have the tools to become an average defender and an elite offensive player.
