Durant to Charlotte

CHA trades: Miles Bridges, Josh Green, Tidjane Saluan, Mark Williams
PHX trades: Kevin Durant

Charlotte trades for a top-15 player. Williams is the most consequential player they lose, but they seemed pretty willing to do so during the year. Here they can have Durant mentor Miller and whoever they draft this year and hopefully solidify themselves as a playoff team.

Phoenix trades Durant for role-players and a starting center.

Tell us why you think KD is on board with this. I mean at this price Charlotte shouldn't even care, but I don't see Phoenix dealing him somewhere he doesn't want to go.

I gotta think Phoenix can get players as useful as Bridges/Williams while also getting future value for KD, right?

haha this is currently being discussed on the Hornets sub. we'd have to do this (and I really really really am opposed to trading Mark in most circumstances).

KD would demand our front office to get its **** together and make some winning moves (that's a win), probably gets Charles Lee fired (big win), and show this whole team how to play ball. I'm in. But realistically, I think the Suns would ask for something closer to #4, Bridges, Green, Salaun... which I still would comfortably do as long as KD would extend with us. He'd have to be a believer in Miller and Melo

I'm really low on what he is going to return and I don't think Phoenix is going to care what Durant wants or not. I also think that he'd be perfectly happy competing for the playoffs and mentoring a young team for a year. At the end of the year he can decide what he wants to do, but I think this kind of one year relationship would be useful for everyone involved. Durant gets out of Phoenix, Phoenix gets useful players for Durant, Charlotte builds a playoff culture.

I think I disagree here. They had deals this deadline but KD said he didn't want to move and they didn't move him. More importantly though I think Mat envisions being a star destination and thus will work with KD on his next home.

Now maybe you are right on KD and Charlotte having mutual interest. I can't speak to that with as much confidence. But I'd be surprised if KD and his agent weren't heavily involved in his next location.

I guess I assumed the Warriors didn't pull the trigger because they didn't want to trade for an unhappy KD.

Yeah could be I suppose. Do you agree with Jax that Phoenix will just take the offer they like the most without consideration for KD?

Phoenix won't but it's not like Charlotte would trade a haul (more than what's in the OP) without seeing what KD wants.

I think CLT should add 2 future firsts and take Mark out? OP is not enough value imo but would try to keep Mark out of it. Would not involve 4th.

And I really don’t think KD would be happy in CLT, but if he doesn’t care and believes in Ball/VJ/Miller? CLT should go ahead.

I think there will be consideration for KD, but that they probably would set that aside for a godfather offer. The Lakers didn't consult AD before trading him to Dallas, and I think it's pretty clear why they didn't.

That said, this is not that offer.

This is a steal for Charlotte lol

I would do this deal in a heartbeat.

We keep the #4 pick as well lol

Grizz will outbid this and make so much more sense.

I must just be way off, I dont see anyone giving a premium asset for a soon to be 37 year old whose contract is expiring but it seems like some people are open to that. E.g. if Memphs offers Bane (I assume that is what is being hinted at above), Phoenix should take it.

I don't want to give up assets to get KD in Charlotte, so for me this is a no. We need to build depth, not bring in a star who is about to retire to play for a shallow team. Can we use draft capital in trades to build out the roster? I guess, but that makes me worried we'll be PHX 2.0 with no draft capital and still not a lot of winning for the one season we get out of KD before he either retires or hits unrestricted free agency and goes somewhere else.

I can't see KD agreeing to play in Charlotte.
