BOS sticks with Tatum & takes a gap year, MIL gets new Robin for Giannis
I saw a thread proposing trading Tatum for Giannis so Boston can contend this season but it makes way more sense for Boston to take a gap year and to reload with Tatum in 2026 given the Bucks don’t own their own pick nor want to deal Giannis.
I know the Celtics have to cut money and Jaylen Brown is a huge contract, I propose Damian Lillard and the Bucks 2031 1st round pick for Jaylen Brown. Maybe make it bigger and add Jrue Holiday for Kyle Kuzma and whatever else filler, these work in the trade checker.
Boston saves some money, get a valuable future 1st round pick, have Kuzma to drive the tank for the top pick, Tatum + expiring Dame + expiring Kuzma + lottery pick in 26 is a pretty good situation. Still have other assets they can move to save money and gain picks, they’d have a bounty in a year and filler contracts to make an offer for anybody that could become available. Not exactly sure how much money this saves.
Bucks move on from Dame and get a new Robin for Giannis, the team recommits to defense and stays in contention for a few more years while kicking the can down the road sending out the 31 1st.

I'm not very high on Jaylen Brown but I can't deny his talent and ability. A team would pay more than dead salary not saving Boston a cent and a 1st in 6 years for Jaylen Brown.

The frp will be better then, it saves a little money and also it dumps Jrue Holiday. Maybe the filler can be AJ Green

Feels unserious. First Boston has to shed salary to be able to make the swap as Dame makes more money. Then you are trying to sell Kuzma for Jrue a positive for Boston. And their incentive is one distant pick.
I mean its great for the Bucks which is the point of this, but unfortunately Boston isn't interested only in what's best for the Bucks.

Brown for Lillard works in the trade machine, Brown makes 500k more. Brown + Holiday for Dame + Kuzma + AJ Green works in trade machine too with Boston shedding a little less than $6M in salary.

Re: BOS sticks with Tatum & takes a gap year, MIL gets new Robin for Giannis
I'm sure there's some way to jiggle the math around to make the basic premise work. But this is terrible for BOS because it's a gap year to what exactly?
Tatum comes back and plays with Kuzma and Dame on a team that's still a tax team next year and the one after instead of playing with the better duo of Brown/Holiday on a team that's also into the tax. I do agree a 2031 MIL 1st could be a good asset, but it's not enough to justify punting on Tatum's early years back from the injury which is essentially what this is. IF MIL had a proper array of picks then I guess MAYBE you could see something here, but with just 1 pick to trade this is a fantasy land idea.

Boston need to get below 2nd apron to aggregate, meaning they need to shed 25M or so

I guess it’s mostly shedding long term salary and it does save some money just not enough to get out of the tax. It’s a valuable pick even tho even tho it’s down the road a bit, it’s better than if it were next year with a full power team. Maybe I’m not understanding the math but it working in the machine so easily is part of why I posted it. AJ Green is a nice young role player.
Dame is an all star player altho yes coming off the same terrible injury as Tatum, his contract is shorter than Brown and next years contract could probably be covered by insurance. Kuzma sucks but he can eat minutes in the gap year driving the tank, Boston has their pick and they could probably get a pretty high one if other players get shed. They’d either have a new blue chip with their pick to build to future with or have the assets + expiring salary to make a strong offer in trade market for anybody they want.
Thanks for the feedback tho

Dang seems like an oversight by the trade machine

I get that Brown is massively overpaid, but he'd still fetch much better offers than this if Boston put him on the trade block today. I understand the frustration from Bucks fans based on that unserious Tatum/Giannis thread, but the solution isn't to make equally unserious proposals the other way. Maybe if they include both the 2031 1st unprotected and the 2032 pick swap while Boston also sheds Jrue's salary for cap relief because new ownership wants to get as far below the tax as they can? Still seems unlikely.

Don’t see how Milwaukee can make up the value to get Jaylen. Not even close really.
Even if they didn’t use Dame and instead tried to pile up all their other contracts with their 2031 first.. Portis, Kuzma, Connaughton, vet mins.. might/could get to Brown’s contract (no idea) while leaving room under second apron to fill roster with vet mins hope Brook stays for cheap.. Boston does not do that version.
