Wizards/Spurs: Spurs move up for Knueppel

Simple trade:
Wiz trade 6 for #14+2027 Atlanta 1st (via Spurs)+2031 Kings swap rights (via Spurs).
Why for the Wizards?
1). They like no one at 6 assuming (Flagg, Harper, VJ, Bailey, and Tre are all gone). They trade down for a future unprotected Atlanta pick and a lotto ticket in the 2031 swap rights with the Kings.
Why for the Spurs?
1). Knueppel is a great fit as a shooter and will be protected on defense with Wemby as the anchor. Knueppel won't make it to 14, so the Spurs would have to trade up to get him.

I wouldn't personally pay that for Kon, but if there is a guy there the Spurs want it makes sense to move up and grab him. Feels too rich though for this specific player.
Wizards should definitely take the high variance swings like this if they could get them if they don't love any prospects. Of course if you don't, its hard to presume another team does enough to give you those high upside assets.

San Antonio can't trade the right to the Kings swap, they can trade the right to swap with the swap or they can trade the pick with the rights to swap. I assume that is probably what you mean here. I think 14 + the Atlanta first is sufficient, but YMMV.

Yeah, no need to pay this much for Knueppel when you can pick up a Carter Bryant, or Rasheer Fleming, or Cedric Coward, or whatever wing you like that is not allergic to shooting and available at 14. In fact those are probably better fits, provided you draft Harper.
The more interesting move up for the Spurs is probably in the 10-13 range, provided they love one of those wings I mentioned. I would see them giving up something to get there.

He looks like a bust to me.

How? He hasn't played any yet lol. He's a shooter/scorer with good size. Unlikely to be a star, but a guy probably destined to have a long career. Shooters with size who can also attack closeouts have roles on good teams.
I don't think he's worth the OP, but everything about his game suggests he'll be fine.

His measurements came back underwhelming for a forward (6'5" rather than 6'7", with a +1 wingspan), he's slow footed and will have problems staying in front of quicker guards, has problems shooting off the dribble... seems like fairly safe he'll play a long time because (on top of being excellent off the catch) he's smart, plays hard and has some playmaking skills, but seems closer to a mid to late lottery to me than someone teams should trade up for.

I'd consider that package for the Jazz at 5 if they wanted to move up that high.

I am pessimistic by nature.
I look at him and think, “who can he guard?”
He looks to me like a doughy, unathletic Dukie bust. Career journeyman off the bench shooter who can’t carve out a larger role because of his athletic limitations.

How does he have good size? He’s small for forward and glacial for guard.

He's 6'5" and stout. Thats' good size for a shooter. And its a PNR league where everyone soft switches so positions matter so much less defensively than ever. People though Kyle Korver couldn't guard either because he was white and pretty. Kon being pasty and red-faced adds to stereotypes but says nothing about his actual ability to defend. Duke makes everyone guard and he did. Effort goes a long way. Lots of good defenses have on paper poor defenders.
Dallas went to the Finals last year with a backcourt of Luka/Kyrie whom everyone would tell you suck defensively. And Dallas wasn't beating teams with offense. Or look at Orlando with no elite defenders at all, save maybe low minute Isaac, and below average defensive bigs and they still have elite defense.
No right now its offense that renders more guys unplayable than defense.

If the Spurs had won the lottery, moving up to grab Tre Johnson would have justified a fair expense. While there are players I got used to coveting in the middle of the lottery like Kon. Queen and Malauch are examples. I'd be in favor of them moving up for the right guy, but their lack of extra picks now make that a tougher sell.

Korver was also excellent using screens, constantly in motion.
He is shorter than advertised and a subpar athlete. He will really have to be a great shooter, like Korver, to play much.
No one is drafting him for defense or athletic profile. They are drafting him because they hope his shooting will outweigh his weaknesses.

Spurs would have to really love somebody to do that. For the most part, I think they should hold onto future picks to trade for established players that help them win championships rather than rolling the dice on more rookies now. They have stars and youth with upside (I’m counting Harper here), so they shouldn’t need to be doing a bunch of gambling.

Not a chance the Spurs fo this. This looks more like the package to move from 14 to 3.

Houston will give you a better version of: Reed Sheppard.
Can add nine also.
Just ship some of those future picks. Or two. Or castle.
