Jaylen Brown to Miami (w/Brooklyn)

MIA trades: Tyler Herro, Terry Rozier, Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jacquez
in: Jaylen Brown
Miami shakes their roster up a bit and gets a player who, at his best, has been better than Herro at his best.
BOS trades: Jaylen Brown, 2027 BOS 1st (protections?)
in: Tyler Herro, Jaime Jacquez, fake 2nd
Boston takes the first step toward cutting payroll and restructuring their roster with Tatum out. This would also entail Holiday or White being traded in the offseason, too, because they won't want to have a guard imbalance. But Herro is young, very good, and more cost-effective for them.
BRK trades: fake 2nd
in: Terry Rozier, Nikola Jovic, 2027 BOS 1st (protections?)
Brooklyn leverages their cap space to get a first and a prospect for taking a large expiring deal.

I understand the financial aspect of this and I'm probably a bigger Herro guy than many here, but I think this is terrible for BOS. Due to Tatum injury, that 2027 is a high variance pick and they're giving it up to get a worse player. You also allude to the fact that they'll then need to follow up with a Holiday or White trade for roster balance and they'll probably need more financial savings because this doesn't get them below the 2nd apron as-is, which would be kind of foolish to move Brown and not even do that.

I'd send Jovic to Boston too. That first is enough for an expiring Rozier and it gives Boston another affordable rotation piece.
Not sure I'm sold on Brown in for Herro on the Miami side. I agree his best is better, but Miami would need a perimeter creator to round out Bam and Brown and without that move....
My guess is Miami would counter by building the deal around Wiggins and offering more future stuff and Boston should probably consider that version too.

I think Wiggins is the guy here for BOS + remove the FRP.

Yah, I wasn't sure the level of protections it should have. My thought was probably top 8, otherwise it is 2 2nds? That gives Brooklyn some reasonable upside while also insulating Boston from a scenario where Tatum is never the same.
RE: broader value, you might be right. Maybe the pick should come from Miami, instead, and that helps balance things.

Value is ok?
But I think Brooklyn can do better than a 2027 1st from Boston.

Horrible trade for Boston, and not great for the Nets either.

Brown is a more impactful player than Herro? Right? (LEBRON doesn’t think so, and neither does EPM, the impact is similiar)
We’re talking about a guy who’s around the top 50 for most of his career, despite what some media folks might have you believe and he's on a supermax. Meanwhile, Herro is on a reasonable $30M value contract. Miami easily says no to this deal.
I get why Boston gave Brown that deal while they were contending, but unless he still has another level to reach, it's an overpay.
The only scenario where I think Miami even considers it is for Wiggins + Terry. They might throw in Jovic / Jaquez and some draft capital if they’re desperate to compete. But even then I'm not sure, especially with how tough Brown’s contract is under this new CBA where cap space is more valuable than ever.

I admittedly only looked at the Brooklyn side of this trade.
Now that I took a look at Boston’s side, I think there’s exactly zero chance that they move Jaylen Brown for payroll reasons.

I mean, if we can keep Herro, Ware, and Bam and still land Brown?!?! I'm in.

I also think they won't move Brown.
I doubt there are many teams that can absorb the contract and are willing to give a lot of value for it.
This looks like a case where Brown is just more valuable to keep than to trade, unless they find someone desperate who overpays.

If this is the return that Brown can get, wouldn’t it be better to trade Tatum? He will be out for a large portion of the season and he could likely get a high pick if the surgery goes well.

What's funny is this started with that idea but I couldn't find a good way to make all the money work
