Giannis becomes a Dinosaur?

Post#1 » by Slim Charless » Fri May 16, 2025 3:33 pm

Let's say he does make the request out of MIL. Toronto goes all in:

Scottie
Immanuel Quickly
Gradey Dick
JaKobe Walter
#9
Bunch more picks
Make them take Kuzma

Is this too much? The lack of a PG on the new Dino team can be fixed by grabbing some FA hopefully.

Who says no? Giannis. Not the roster that he can contend with. Wrong C type, not enough shooting. FA PG is someone like Schroeder or Tyus Jones, just not enough of the right fitting pieces.

Bucks obviously say no, nothing here is worth building around. Giannis isn’t going to ask out to go to a worse situation with less chance of winning either.

Milwaukee trades Giannis just to become the Toronto Raptors?

That can't be serious.

I think Quickley's contract is a big negative (35 million a year for a fringe starting PG? really?), Barnes is a good player but overrated and overpaid (nowhere near max), Gradey Dick and JaKobe Walter are ok-ish prospects at best, and #9 is valuable but not really what you want for in a deal like this. Bucks can do better.

If Toronto cannot win with those players, what makes the Bucks think they can?

I think the Dinos were tanking this year and could've won more and showed alot better had they wanted to. Like a lot of teams, they were going for ping pong balls.

The have talent on the team and players that are ready now. Bucks can't really tank unless they get their picks back. East will be weak. It's completely open next season.

While I think IQ is slightly over paid, that same thing can be said about alot of NBA players.

Also that highlighted part is a bit.....interesting coming from a Spurs fan. Of course I'm sure you have a package you think is better. Are you offering up both Castle and #2?

The Raptors went 12-10 down the stretch. If that’s tanking, they didn’t do it well.

Why would I? Other than Barnes, whose contract probably puts him at about Castle's value, the rest is either flotsam or ballast. I have Quickley as a clear negative at that price tag. Have you checked the state of the Raptors? That's what those players get you.

That proves my point if anything, they have players that are good and could've put up more W's if they wanted to....

I dont think Scottie is equal to Castle for one. I'd be interested to see who does aside from Bill Simmons. Scottie is better at this time and by alot.

I said that IQ is overpaid slightly, that doesn't make him negative. He's still a good player and a quality young PG. Perfect PG to play with Scottie.

I dont think you beat that package I posted unless both Castle and the #2 are in it.

Take a look at their schedule. It was incredibly weak on the back end. I tracked this stuff pretty heavily since the Sixers were tanking their asses off. It was a normal arc of a team trying to win on a hilariously unbalanced schedule.

I think there's a deal that leaves enough for Giannis to contend with some room for Masai to make moves around the edges.

Of course as a Pels fan, I'm thinking of how to insert them into any GA trade with the Bucks' pick control in '26 and '27. Was thinking of dumping Murray while getting back #9, but MIL probably doesn't want that contract muddling their return for their star.

Bucks could just take Barnes and the future Raptors picks. They could even offer up #9 and a future Raptors 1st for their picks back from the Pelicans. But what if Pels see this as a chance to reset the roster beyond Zion, replacing him with Barnes as a young, more reliable, safer semi-star? Bucks oblige as a way to get their pick/tank control back for the loaded '26 draft, and take on the riskier yet higher ceiling Zion.
-----

MIL trades:
Giannis

MIL gets:
Zion,
Barrett,
Gradey D.,
Olynyk,
'26 MIL swap rights returned,
'26 TOR 1st,
'27 MIL/NOP 1st (best of),
'27 TOR swap,
'28 TOR 1st,
'30 TOR swap
----

TOR trades:
Barnes,
Barrett,
Gradey D.,
Poeltl,
#9 pick,
'26 TOR 1st, '27 TOR swap, '28 TOR 1st, '30 TOR swap

TOR gets
Giannis,
Portis,
McCullom
------

NOP trades
Zion,
Olynyk,
McCullom,
'26 MIL swap rights,
'27 NOP/MIL 1st (best of)

NOP gets
Barnes,
Poeltl,
Kuzma,
#9 pick
---

Bucks reset with a haul for their superstar. Mainly, they get control over their next two draft picks, positioning themselves for the next Silver Special (top draft pick secured after trading your superstar). They take the risk on Zion with a higher ceiling than Barnes, rebuilding his value as their next franchise star or for re-trade later on. Barrett for.Kuzma swap is favorable, and makes for a nice PR spin of college teammates reuniting and reinventing their career in a new situation. If it crashes? Then, they can always retrade Z or waive his future years of salary off their books and focus on high lottery positioning even more. This deal gets them way under the tax/aprons for future moves.

Raptors/Masai get their guy in Giannis to contend in the weak East and write the next chapter of his legacy together. They're left with enough shooting and a capable co-star, with some room for Masai to improve the roster around the edges.

Pelicans take the chance to reset their franchise with a more reliable, safer cornerstone in Barnes. They build a fun young core with Barnes and Murphy, and add another lotto pick this year to add a high level prospect or package to trade for veteran talent.

Portis/ Mogbo/ FA
Giannis/ FA
Ingram/ Battle
Agbaji/ McCullom/ Walter
Quickly/ Shead

Olynyk/ FA
Zion/ AndreJ
Barrett/ PatC
Gradey/ AJGreen
FA

Poeltl/ Missi
Barnes/ Matkovic
Murphy/ Kuzma
Herb/ Hawkins/ Reeves
Jose/ (Murray)
+ 2 rookies (Fears/Kon/Queen/TreJ/C.Bryant)

I don't see how this benefits Giannis or the Bucks. The Raptors are not true contenders with Giannis and Bucks are simply not getting anything close to enough.

Toronto has nothing left. Shead, Mogbo, Poeltl, Battle, Agbaji, Chomche sounds like the biggest cast of random players ever. Giannis can't win with that.

Most Toronto does is Barnes, #9, Barrett and one of Gradey or Agbaji and multiple picks and swaps plus takes Kuzma.

I know it isn't a home run but Barnes is good and young enough to build around. Barrett might have value to a team looking for a wing scorer, #9 gives you a good player to choose the BPA and the swaps and firsts can be used to refill the empty cupboards.

Your bench is light and you'll need a PG, but you'll have some cap room to sign 1, and the east will be weak. That team could lock up a top 5 spot in the east pretty easily I think.

Looked at the names Tyus Jones is the best out of the bunch but he's not great more of a backup. Chris Paul will be 100 and isn't signing with Toronto and is far from what he was. Ben Simmons can't shoot and D'Angelo Russell is more of a scoring guard than a point and does Toronto want the baggage?
