KP to the Lakers
Brooklyn Nets get:
Sam Hauser
Jarred Vanderbilt
Maxi Kleber
Gabe Vincent
2026 Lottery Protected Boston Celtics First Round Draft Pick (Becomes Unprotected 2027)
Right to swap first round picks with Boston in 2030
Boston Celtics get:
Future Top 55 Protected Second Round Draft Pick
Los Angeles Lakers get:
Kristaps Porzingis
-Bostons saves a TON of money to become more flexible for when Tatum returns.
-Brooklyn would still have more cap space than the Non-Tax MLE after this, but mostly punts their cap space to 2026 and gets assets in the process.
-Lakers add a nice fit at center without losing assets or core pieces.
Only question I have is... how was the Luka/KP relationship in Dallas?

Celtics are paying to dump Vando for the Lakers, there are easier paths.

Re: KP to the Lakers
There are rumors that it was Luka who wanted KP out, in case that clarifies your question... KP is a bad contract by all accounts. He hasn't had a healthy Playoff season in his entire career, and with age, that's getting even worse. Luka is a loyal guy (although he doesn't owe anything to LAL), but he's not stupid. His free agency is in 2026. A move like this (and an inevitable first-round exit, at best) could make him look for greener pastures....

Re: KP to the Lakers
I wonder if Boston would just kind of go for it again...
Vuc, Hauser and 2-3 Celtics 1sts to Brooklyn (could even flip Vuc to LAL)
KP to Chicago
Jalen Smith and Cam Johnson to Boston
Followed by Gafford/Klay for Jrue

Bad fit on court and off court, so dont know what the "nice fit" comes from

Re: KP to the Lakers
Hauser can be dumped into someone's MLE for free if not get a 2nd or 2 back imo.
Can probably turn KP into smaller salaries elsewhere first instead of paying a 1st and swap to dump him directly.

No offense, but I trust his opinions more than I trust anyone's on this forum.

This doesn't make sense for Boston because they don't want to take back long-term money—that defeats the purpose. The idea behind "expirings have value" is that the team trading the expiring contract would be willing to take on longer-term deals in exchange for a sweetener—like a younger player, draft picks, etc.

Agree with this. Whole reason to trade KP is to lower payroll. Now, I suppose it could be for smaller contracts that they can trade, but that doesnt sound what he is talking about

Re: KP to the Lakers
Smith is saying you can trade KP for smaller but longer contracts w/o attaching assets. he is not saying you can trade KP into someone's capspace for free

As do I. I listened to his sound argument on his podcast. The sound argument to the contrary I haven't seen or heard.

There are plenty here on board, for those interested in discussion, specifically on this topic, and not reenforcing bias.

You're welcome to share this sound argument right now. I'm simply pointing out the opinion of somebody who most definitely knows more than I do, and I would suspect knows more than anybody on this forum. That has nothing to do with bias. I'm not sure what you want from me.

This is the most discussed topic on the board, even more than Giannis trades, here is an example

Re: KP to the Lakers
Maybe they can trade him directly for Nurkic or Vucevic and save a few million... remember that the Mavs would have to add an SRP to trade him for Dindwiddie/Bertans or BOSTON receiving 2 FRP to trade him for Smart... I think that gives us a clue as to how negatively he is valued in the league... the fact that he has been diminished in the last 2 Playoffs and is older only makes it worse in my opinion

I've already read that and all it is is mixed opinions.
