Find the best trades for John Collins and Collin Sexton

Post#1 » by HadAnEffectHere » Sun May 18, 2025 3:44 pm

After multiple years of Ainge trying and failing to trade these guys for value, we have to dump them this offseason as they're playing for new contracts and will not go along with a tank. Both are expiring contracts and both are good 6th men, where do they end up this summer?

I mean, obviously, but Ainge doesn't really have a choice right now. They have to go to other teams and show out to get their last major NBA contract. Ainge asking them to fake injuries on a 17 win team is not even remotely plausible. Especially as Sexton and Collins are represented by the biggest agencies in the NBA.

Ainge's reservation price has to be 0 at this point and he has to trade them to whoever gives the best offer.

I’d do that. How many years left on Bogeys contract?

Jazz trade: Sexton, 27 1st
Jazz receive: Vando, Milton (into MLE), Knecht (into BAE), LAL 26, LAL 27 swap option with 2nd lowest pick Jazz have in 27, 32 2nd round pick

Lakers dump Vando, get another rotation guard, Jazz add draft capital, prospect in Knecht, and generate 19M TPE to be used to eat more salary and get draft capital.

This can be lumped with the UTA deal mentiined above and generate 26M TPE.

If the Jazz prefer expiring to Vando, then instead of Vando/Milton/Knecht, Maxi + Vincent.

Jazz trade: Sexton, 27 1st
Jazz receive: Maxi, Vincent, , LAL 26, LAL 27 swap option with 2nd lowest pick Jazz have

Mavs offer, Klay and Martin (or Hardy + Powell, since Nico seems to like Martin for some reason), LAL 29 unprotected for Sexton, 2nd worst pick in 27 (worst is going to PHX)

Sexton and Collins to Nuggets
Mpj and Saric and 31 1st to Jazz

Nuggets get Collins to replace MPJ (Gordan can guard 3's). And gain another good rotation piece who can get his own shot or play off Jokic.

Id do any of these, though im pretty sure the MPJ trade doesn't work financially.

Honestly, like I never even consider trades with the Jazz, because it feels like Ainge is just going to put bad faith out there. Seems like a waste of time.

It doesn't matter what Ainge wants at this point, he has to trade both or risk Klutch and Excel telling their clients to not go to Utah. He has to trade them to whichever team has the best offer.

Cleveland was the best team in the NBA for most of the season and Minny is playing in the WCF for the 2nd year in a row.

Yeah, Ainge really ripped those teams off by trading them 2 all-stars for a bunch of mid to late picks.

Just goes to show how some people never let go of a narrative no matter how things turn out otherwise.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

UTA Out/ORL in: Sexton
ORL out/UTA in: WCarterJr, Jett Howard

ORL fills a need with a slightly better (?) version of Cole Anthony, and may have a D good enough overall to hide Sexton

Utah gets a rotation backup C on a good contract and a look at a G they can drop if he doesn't work out

Do we think Utah does that for the second worst 2029 first? Just a 2029 swap at that point I guess..

I think, if possible, it’s interesting to keep the option to trade 4 firsts after the 2028 draft now that the team has Flagg?

Way too far in future, but could give Kyrie a new contract this offseason and then trade him as expiring filler when you’re retooling around Flagg.

I think so, they'd prefer 27 because they have 3 1sts compared to 2, but shouldn't be a deal breaker.

As if there are major free agents lining up to go to Salt Lake City?

Also nobody's going to blackball a team over John **** Collins not getting what he wants.

Sabotaging the last contract of two fairly high earning players actually seems like it could have pretty bad blowback.

Meanwhile, there's no upside whatsoever.

Kleber, Vanderbilt and Knecht for Collins?

I like the above Dallas concept in this thread for Sexton

The Jazz obviously instantly accept this, but unfortunately, we're very doubtful to get this offer, lol.

Not a single team offered a first round pick for Sexton at the deadline, the league hates him and it's very sad as he plays really hard, is really good at scoring, and is a good locker room guy.
