Lakers get Murray, Braun
Murray, Braun, Doncic, LeBron, Kleber -- Goodwin, Bronny, Knecht, DFS, Hayes
Lakers upgrade backcourt.

Nuggets get Reaves, Rui, Gabe, Vando
Gabe, Reaves, MPJ, Gordon, Jokic -- Westbrook, Watson, Strawther, Rui, Vando
Nuggets move on from Murray (to the relief of their fans) and get Reaves with a lot more bench depth for their team. They lose Braun in the process.

Not a downgrade but a reshuffle for depth

Jamal is better than Reaves and CB is better than Rui. You downgrade and get two role players who don't move the needle. It's not a trade Denver considers.

Denver breaks up the Murray deal.

They no have Muh more tradeable pieces (Rui, Vando, Gabe) they can trade for different parts they want.

yeah this is really rough for Denver. Even if you called Reaves/Murray a wash, Braun is worth more than those other pieces. Can't see them considering this especially as they would have to pay Reaves in a year anyway except he might leave. Rui needs a new deal, still have Vandy on the roster...

This looks great for the Lakers, and bad for Denver.

I guess I thought Murray was viewed as a negative deal because of the large multi year contract.

Is that not the case?

He's earning the 30% max for the next 4 seasons.

Yeah, but Denver still wants to win. It's not like this trade will allow them to sign free agents. This makes the team worse in every way.

Reaves is likely entering the last season of his deal. What’s it going to take to keep him around?

That's not really known yet. Depends on which teams have capspace and if they value Reaves.

Have to think he'd be looking at around $30m per season (18% of cap).

I think this is a hard no all the way around. Murray is just to darn expensive (Next 4 years are projected to be $46.4M, $50.1M, $53.8M & $57.5M). Not only does Reaves need to be resigned to a large raise next summer, but Braun will be due for a large raise as well. Just read something today saying that Braun's rookie extension will start at around $30M.

There will be a ton of cap space available league wide next summer.

Yeah but a ton of young FAs from 2018 draft hit the UFA market.
Luka, Fox, JJJ, Trae, Mikal

A bunch of restricted FAs too from 2022 draft.

And then a bunch of old gold.
LeBron, Durant, Kyrie

Look at the expiring contracts on the Heat, Blazers, Hornets, and Wizards.

I think the bigger question is whether Braun or Reaves will cost more to retain, right?

Yeah, Braun is a real nice fit alongside Jokic. He is basically doing the same stuff KCP did. Good defense, high efficiency, low turnovers. Doesn't try to do too much. But at the same time, he isn't so good that he is likely to cost a fortune when he hits free agency.

Nah. He won't cost that much. 3&D SG's who can't really create their own shot just aren't that expensive. I like Braun, but much of his production is due to the attention that Jokic draws. He is a role player - a good role player, but a role player nevertheless. He is a 4th or 5th starter on a playoff team. You don't pay those guys $30M. You pay them $15-22M. The KCP signing in Orlando is probably a good analogy. And Braun might get a little less after seeing how KCP declined without Jokic.

Zimpy bruh, have you not seen the the reports that Lakers won't trade Reaves unless involves a tip tier center? If they stick by this, this a failed trade and Lakers won't propose or accept it.

Lakers might not get top tier center for Reaves, but I bet they do get a center in a trade for Reaves and or others etc

I also don't see them trading Reaves, maybe follwing offseason but don't see it this offseason season unless they get center they want

If Reaves is your 2nd best player you're in trouble.

Denver easily decline this trade.
