SAC/NOP/DAL

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Mon May 19, 2025 9:37 pm

Okay so this started by me trying to put it all together for Dallas. So if its off for the other teams, I'm acknowledging where I started from.

Kings trade: Monk/JV
Kings get: Gafford/Washington/Powell/Hardy

Pels trade: Herb Jones
Pels get: Klay Thompson/29 LAL 1st unprotected*

Mavs trade: Gafford/Washington/Thompson/Powell/Hardy/29 LAL 1st*
Mavs get: Monk/Jones/JV

*Could be Mavs 31st if Pels preferred

Kings upgrade their frontcourt, would need to sign a PG using MLE after this. Powell and Hardy are just part of the price to turn Monk into both Washington and Gafford.
Pels still get an unprotected 1st out of Herb after injury/down year, can't take advantage of cheap contract with this roster so selling
Mavs get their stopgap PG/6th man, a defensive wing, and backfill the 3rd center spot. And shed $10M or so towards staying under the 2nd apron to make all this feasible.

I don't think New Orleans is going to move Herb for a pick 3 years in the future from a team led by Luka Doncic. But the Kings portion seems good. Could New Orleans be replaced with another team? Maybe Brooklyn and send Cam Johnson to Dallas? Salaries would need to be rebalanced, maybe they don't take back JV and keep Powell? Is JV really a big upgrade?

Yeah I honestly don't know about Herb. Prior to last year I would have said they weren't moving him unless someone got really stupid. But with the injury and down year and moving BI, I have to think they'd have to at least consider it because his value is largely in his cheap deal but if they can't compete to take advantage of it, they should probably realize his value in a trade.

As to the pick, no idea which is why I gave them the option of the Dallas pick. Of course its even further away so....

Nets fans here place such a premium on Cam, that I hesitate to propose deals bringing him to Dallas, plus he's not the defender Jones is. Cam is an upgrade in the rotation over Klay/Christie of course, but would largely have that same role. Wanted something different paired with Christie.

JV is an upgrade on Powell, but no he's not essential here at all. His inclusion though allowed the Kings to take back Hardy and Powell though with that being a small savings for them rather than just added salary.

The Kings side is fine from our end. Keep saying I love Monk there. And I've long liked the JV for Gafford swap for both teams, Mavs lock in JV for an extra cheap year, Kings get a rim defender.

From Kings POV we would just need a Demar for a pg type of deal (Jrue Holiday?) and we could probably continue fighting for the play-in like Vivek wants.
Jrue/Carter
LaVine/Keon
Keegan
Washington
Sabonis/Gafford

Pelicans part does feel light for them.

Kings would try to cut Dallas out and get Herb too. If not possible, they probably do the OP.
