BOS / CHA / MEM

CHA gives: Nurkic, Okogie (guaranteed for $3,856,707 to make numbers work)
CHA gets: Porzingis
Why? Just upgrade their ceiling for no cost really. Nurkic has a history of availability issues like Porzingis but also the problem of not really being good anymore even when he does play. Porzingis gives them a stretch 5 option. He gets hurt? Oh well. He has a good contract year like he did for WAS a couple years ago? Maybe helps get them into the play in. Okogie's deal is fully non guaranteed but needs to be partially guaranteed to make math work.
MEM gives: Brandon Clarke, future 2nds
MEM gets: Nurkic
Why? MEM will have an expensive front court in the future once they extend Aldima and JJJ this offseason to go with draft capital invested in Edey. Clarke is on the books for $12.5M next year and 2 more after that, while Nurkic is expiring. Clarke's also coming off another injury. They pay some 2nds to help their long term cap sheet.
BOS gives: Porzingis
BOS gets: Clarke, Okogie (guaranteed for $3,856,707 to make numbers work), future 2nds from MEM
Why? Save money. Okogie's partial guarantee would be moved out in a follow up deal. If they draft/sign the #28 and #32 picks they currently have, they're going to be about $24.1M over the 2nd apron. Once they make the follow up Okogie deal with another team, they'll have turned saved $18.2M of that going from Porzingis to Clarke and added future 2nds as opposed to spent them. They can put that to work in other deals, likely involving Jrue.

easy yes for Charlotte as long as KP even has a chance of going into next season healthy.

Reportedly he's going to be cleared for Eurobasket. He didn't have an "athletic" injury during these playoffs. He actually looked really, really good to end the year physically, but he had a recurrence of a viral illness that had some pretty harsh physical effects on him. His history is concerning, but as long as that illness is something that will get better in several months time there's not really any immediate concern for him playing next year apart from his normal durability questions throughout the year.

Memphis cannot do this. We are going to either trade Clarke for no money coming back using assets or choose to not resign Aldama. Our offseason plan is to continue to clear more money under the cap to renegotiate and extend JJJ. That is the whole reason we paid to dump Smart.
If we go the not resign Adlama route then Clarke is going to be very important top 6-7 rotation player for us next year. He is a positive impact player for us that we don't want to get off of unless we really need his salary for another purpose.

Also, follow up question... if this is an "easy yes", what do you think would make it a "reluctant yes" for CHA? I see CHA is picking #33 and #34 this year, would they include one of those? That seems like too much to me. MEM picks #48 so maybe as part of this 3 team deal would CHA move down from #33 or #34 to #48 and BOS takes back that pick instead of one of the future 2nds I have MEM sending?

Memphis is the wrong 3rd team here.

Why? They move off the longer deal of Clarke and get a 3rd string goon that expires.

I think it works even better as a 3-way where 3 teams exchange expirings they don't want. But the dollar amounts drop down in a stagger that sort of cheats the trade rules a little bit.
Celts trade KP + #28 ($30.7)
Celts receive Nurk + #33 ($19.7)
Heat trade Rozier ($26.6) + #20 pick
Heat receive KP ($30.7) + #28 pick
Hornets trade Nurk + #33
Hornets receive Rozier + #20
No Okogie needed. Everyone dumps the expiring they don't want. Miami gets talent upgrade. Charlotte gets draft slot upgrade. Boston gets salary savings.

i like it for MEM if it moves them up in the draft this year which seems pretty doable . could maybe work in Hauser ?
does BOS send 28 to shed a bit more salary with some picks shuffled around ?

I think if Clarke is still on the roster, Aldama won’t be. And either one of those two are more important than Nurkic imo (a “PF” over a center)
Every cap-legal dollar possible should go to JJJ this offseason. Think Boston/CLT could find a better fitting third team

This deal fits into salary matching, so it would happen AFTER a JJJ extension using all their cap space. But that cap space would get reduced by Aldama's cap hold so they do still have to give JJJ a deal based on the calculation with "both" of them on the roster which might be your point. But the extra $6.9M they're taking on in the Clarke/Nurkic swap doesn't come out of the cap they have for JJJ.

I meant, to maximize JJJ’s money they have to choose a forward and move on from the other.
Or at least that’s what my finger math always ends up with.

Requires some swallowing of pride

Celts trade KP
Celts receive Nurk
Hornets trade Nurk + Green
Hornets receive KP + Maxi Kleber + Gabe Vincent (into MLE)
Lakers send: Maxi Kleber + Gabe Vincent
Lakers receive: Josh Green
(I suggest in addition Nurk + cash for Clarkson ,then Clakson + 28 for Jalen Smith + 45)

cant offer enough money for JJJ if they keep both Aldama's caphold and Clarke's salary on the books

psman explained it above. They don't have the financial room to add salary for a 3rd string center when they have more important matters to tend to.

nah the OP works better for Charlotte. Porzingis would be far more valuable to us than the difference between 33 and 20, and we've been there done that with Rozier. If Tre Mann is healthy, it's easy for us to forget all about him
