POR/ORL...back to the obvious, plus a twist

ORL sends: Isaac, WCJ, KCP, #25
POR sends: Simons, Ayton

Why POR: 3 really useful vets and a frp for two guys that aren’t in future team vision.

*If Mose can get through to Ayton defensively, he’s as physically imposing as any big man in the league. He doesn’t have to be great, but he could be more than good enough pretty easily with some effort…I think this is the kind of project that Mosely is built for. Mosley’s whole rep as an assistant was “connects with and relates to players” “in-shape enough to work with them personally” and “defense”…those traits were really highlighted in the book I’m reading (about Luka) called “The Wonderboy”…he’s clearly not an X&O guy - maybe this is where he shines?

Ayton is a large expiring…at worst. The deal is worthy of consideration just for that…but could be MUCH more if he and Simons accept more limited but elite roles and are receptive to long-term, lower salary extensions.

I LOVE WCJ as a mentor, backup, and PF to Clingan (who is the Center of the present and future in POR)
I LOVE KCP as a mentor, defender and occasional SF with Scoot, Sharpe, and Avidja - that's a strong group getting stronger
I LOVE slimmed-down Isaac on any team - especially ORL...but you've got to give some value to get
Notice that the pick is #25, that's in light of the fact that ORL's providing 3 serious rotation players, not just junk filler (could be #16, but shouldn't)

Ayton's still very young (and expiring)...as I said, ORL wsure didn't hire Mosely for his X's & O's...low-commitment, huge upside, incredible giant of a player.

I don't see Portland valuing any of those players to any real degree and so a late first to take on their money wouldn't interest me. Value feels short unless Portland LOVES those players but I suspect they don't.

If you think those players have all that value, send them to other teams and send the proceeds with expirings to Portland.

OP has orlando taking in 62M and senidng out 47M only when they are 6M away from 2nd apron. Thats a problem

here is the problem with that trade:

in just a 2 year period, Simons, Ayton, Timelord, Thybulle, Sharpe, Camara, Scoot, Avdija, and Clingan will ALL be getting new contracts; in 2 years. That would be an unsustainable situation for any big market team, and Portland is not a big market team

so, the Blazers would actually value the expiring contracts of Simons & Ayton...maybe value them highly as they will need the margin under the tax & aprons to sign those other players. I don't think the Blazers can afford the 34M year from Carter Jr and Issac

simplify and make it the expiring of Simons for the expiring of Anthony & Harris + #16

Ya this is just far too much money for PDX especially when the butchers bill comes due with paying Sharpe, Camara, Deni and Scoot.

You’d have to imagine if all it took was Cole Gary and a 1st that would’ve been done at the deadline. That also means Orlando’s FO actually tried to improve the team vs being happy to sit

Portlands vets > what they’re getting

No thank you

Simons for KCP and #16 still works for me.

I doubt Simons goes for that.

I loved the OP's trade until I looked at the contracts. As others have pointed out, there are Blazers players that are going to be getting paid. We can't be sending out our 2 biggest expirings for 3 spendy role players that will be on the books for years.
