Celtics/Hornets/Blazers Yeah its a Jrue deal, sorry
Boston trades: Jrue/Tillman#28
Boston gets: Josh Green/Timelord
Charlotte trades: Green/Nurkic/#33/#34
Charlotte gets: Jrue/Tillman/#28
Portland trades: Timelord
Portland gets: Nurkic(bought out)?/#33/#34
Portland gets two good 2nds for taking on $6M. Nurkic is either the 3rd center or gets bought out.
Charlotte gets a perfect veteran to help them start transitioning to being competitive and turns their high 2nds into a late 1st
Boston saves $8M plus tax immediately and gets two playable backups in return. Much bigger savings the next two seasons.

For Boston, Timelord is just good vibes rather than an actual, available player at this point. Josh Green is whatever and signed past this yr. Paying a first to dump Jrue is probably not what Boston had in mind when they extended him 15 months ago. And that said, this is one of the better Jrue deals I've seen...

I like it, i think Jrue would be good for the young Hornets.

Oh I agree. Didn't plan on the Tatum injury either. Definitely an unexpected pivot. And agree the players the Celtics get back are not great. Green can soap up 20-25 RS minutes for you, but probably not much of a playoff rotation guy. Williams is fine when he plays, but he never plays.
This is mostly about the money with the players having some, but limited utility.

Too good for Portland by a smidge, but that's the result of deals with multiple 2nds.

I kind of think the Blazers will look for an upgrade this season, and Nurkic’s contract (especially if released and can’t be traded) makes that harder. A season after trading out of the 2nd round, I can’t imagine Blazers using their cap flexibility and more tradable contract on 2 2nds. I’m fine with the value personally, but it doesn’t seem like a move that fits with what Portland has been doing. If they just love somebody early in the 2nd, that could obviously change that.

Can we send pick 39 from Portland to Boston?
I feel 28 is too much just to move Holiday but maybe I’m unrealistic.

That's kinda where I'm at in regards to the 2nds. And I think RW3 is a nice presence in the locker. Nurk not so much. (obviously, if bought out, that doesn't matter). Am not sure about the overall effect on the salary for Portland, but adding 6 to an already unnecessarily bloated salary is never good

Meh I dunno as a Hornets fan, not real excited about paying Jrue almost $40M when he's 37 given the way he seems to be falling off.
Wouldn't be the end of the world but I wouldn't do it.

In theory it doesn't stop Portland from buying/doing other business. Nurk becomes matching and the 2nds could add to what they send out to buy. And I have Portland $17M below the tax line before paying draft picks with a pretty full roster so I thought the $6M was doable.
But as always if Portland can do something more meaningful, they should definitely do that over this. This is just a minor little pickup for them.

Maybe the Blazers route Nurkic to the Lakers for Knecht and either Klieber or Vincent (Lakers choice).
In all honesty, I'd like to see Nurkic go to the Clippers. The Clippers woukd then have the best center rotation to go against Jokic. I'm too lazy to see if something could be worked out though.

One thing about this deal is it doesn't prevent Portland from upgrading.
Nurkic + #33 + #34 can get a low-end rotation player.
#33 or #34 can be flipped for 3-5 future 2nds while Portland can still stay and pick BPA at #33 or #34.
Ultimately, I see this move as a deal that's too good for Portland to pass up. The fact it doesn't hinder future moves makes it a no-brainer.

I don’t think Blazers are getting 3-5 2nds for 1. The problem with having Nurkic instead of just spare cap space is it limits off balanced trades in terms of salary. If a team is willing to part with a $15M player or a $20M player that is over the cap, we can easily flip Rob plus a trade exception for them, but if we have Nurkic, we’d only have the flexibility to trade Nurkic for that player, which most teams would be less inclined to do in general.

Teams trade top 2nds for multiple future 2nds every year.
What happens frequently is a team has a player say #18 on their board available at #32 or #34. Any team in the NBA would trade 3-5 2nds for their #18 player on their board.

Such an easy yes for PDX.
Would prefer to include Kris Murray to open a roster spot though.

It doesn’t stop them, but it definitely limits options. Less teams would want Nurkic than Rob in a bigger trade, and the money is easier to make work with Rob and a decent amount of salary space than Nurkic and a small amount of salary space. Looking at money real quick, we start with $17M as you say, then take away $6M because of this trade, then $6M assuming we don’t trade the #11 pick, then we sign the 2 2nd rounders at about $1.5M a piece (based on the average of last year’s 33rd and 34th picks) and that only leaves us with $2M in cap space and not much if any room at roster space. Keep in mind, Blazers don’t have Banton currently on the roster, so we need to get a guard to take up those minutes. I personally wants to draft a point guard anyway with the 11th pick, but if we don’t, I doubt Blazers expect to play a 2nd rounder rotational minutes at that position when Scoot is at times questionable himself. So we may need some of that cap and roster space to bring back Banton or another guard. All this makes me think this may work better if Blazers already have a 2nd trade lined up simultaneously or this trade gets expanded.

I'm sure the Celtics will be waiting in line with bated breath to acquire the one guy more injured than Porzingis...
I have a secret to share with you, and I am sure it will come as a shock to the majority of posters here (who can
continue on with their Payton Pritchard for two second round picks trades),
but Holiday/Porzingis/Hauser like the vast majority of Celtics players all have positive value. There's no need to trade them off
for the NBA flotsam and jetsam...
