Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
PHI trades: Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, 3, 2028 pick swap (MIL receives highest of LAC/MIL 1st), 2029 PHI/LAC 1st (highest conveyed, LAC protected 1-3), 2031 PHI 1st
in: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton
Morey gets an MVP-caliber player. It's a very Morey thing to do. With how well Grimes, McCain, and Edwards played last season I think they also feel confident that they have good enough players 1-3 to win a lot of games even when Embiid is out. McCain - Grimes - Edwards - Giannis - Embiid. I feel like there is a version where Embiid goes out instead of George if he is truly cooked.
NOP trades: DeJounte Murray, 7, 2026 MIL 1st swap extinguished, 2027 NOP/MIL 1st (higher)
in: Tyrese Maxey
New Orleans gets a star guard and gets off of Murray's contract. Maxey-Murphy-Jones-Zion-Missi.
MIL trades: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton
in: Paul George, DeJounte Murray, 3, 2026 MIL 1st swap extinguished, 2027 NOP/MIL 1st (higher), 2028 swap extinguished, 2029 POR/BOS/MIL 1st (highest), 2030 swap extinguished, 2028 pick swap (MIL receives highest of LAC/MIL 1st), 2029 PHI/LAC 1st (highest conveyed, LAC protected 1-3), 2031 PHI 1st
Milwaukee ends this trade with 3 of the 5 worst contracts in the league on their roster but gets control of their draft picks, gets the third pick, an additional swap, and two additional firsts. I think this is better than the packages I have seen from Houston and San Antonio.
POR trades: 2028 swap extinguished, 2029 POR/BOS/MIL 1st (highest), 2030 swap extinguished
in: 7
Portland trades picks later for a swing at upside now.
Why Giannis does it:
The West is a bloodbath and the East looks even worse than normal next season. I'd rather be out East and have a chance to rest some nights and not have it be consequential for the playoffs.

I think there is a talent gap in this draft between 6-10. I would rather the Blazers hang onto the Bucks future picks than cash them in now for #7

I think if you pulled this off, you just don’t involve Portland. Or just take Maluach or Kas versus paying for the option to be terrible in 3 years. But the value is probably right?
Feels like NOP is getting a really good deal there.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
I think there's iterations of Giannis to Philly that could make sense, but this doesn't feel like one of them.
Just use one of Maxey (plus Oubre) or George (plus McCain) as the main salary matching and add a bunch of picks.
Turning George into Kuzma is not a plus, particularly when trying to compete.

This is really bold.
Have to think about this one a bit.

No from Philly. We don't know if Embiid can even play, so it would be foolish to give up all their assets for a win now move.
Also, Kuzma sucks. If they want to win now, they would just keep PG or Maxey. I imagine it shouldn't take all their picks plus both of them to land Giannis.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
I would doubt Giannis has Philly on his list. Further, this is still the Sixers relying on a healthy Embiid, which is an awful idea. How long until Giannis asks out of Philly when Embiid is cooked even if he agrees to come?
I am hoping Morey isn't this shortsighted.

1) Too complex
2) Giannis isn't asking to go to Philly

My guess is any Giannis to Philly deal where Milwaukee isn't getting Maxey is DOA. I would hope our front office wouldn't go for this kind of trade but who knows really.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
Hate it for Portland. I bet the Blazers get a minimum of 1 lotto pick as it is from the picks they have, and potentially more. I don’t give that up for the 7th in this draft. Blazers are also left with minimal high end picks to trade to further build the team, so if 7 doesn’t pan out, it is a massive blunder IMO.

Pass for PDX but I have unrealistic ideations on what those MIL picks / swaps turn into.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
Not that I want to trade Maxey, but any Giannis deal to PHI should be a lot simpler than this. Basically Maxey + #3 + some additional picks for Giannis.
Expanding the deal to "dump" PG and bring in losers like Kuzma is counterproductive if we'd be trying to "win now." PG is still a better player than Kuzma and if he bounces back to some extent from injury next year the gap is even wider.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
Yeah it feels gross given how this season went, but I think Philly is probably better off just praying George bounces back next year vs. what I think it will cost to dump his contract. He's obviously up there in age so declining isn't a surprise but it was such a steep drop off last season. It happens sometimes but I feel like it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he bounces back to some extent. I'd say the same about Kuzma too but even at his best, Kuzma isn't particularly good.Arsenal wrote:Not that I want to trade Maxey, but any Giannis deal to PHI should be a lot simpler than this. Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
Agree that Portland should not be involved. I don't like anybody after Flagg, Harper, and Edgecombe enough to give up the chance at those swaps falling higher or in a better draft. It's admittedly a gamble, but Portland needs to prioritize big swings over safer bets.

I agree with this.
It occurred to me I might be letting the recent lotteries where teams jumped way up into the top 3 overly influence my thoughts on this. But on the other hand, it may take that kind of stroke of luck for a team like Portland to get that elite level talent. And if so, those extra bites at the lottery apple, even if they are statistically unlikely, are pretty precious.
May be a case where the two birds in the bush are actually worth more than the bird in hand?

As Pels fan i would do this, nice way to consolidate assets even though maxey/zion fit is questionable bcs of defense.
Maxey/Jones/Murphy/Zion/Missi
Alvarado/CJ/Hawkins/JRE/Olynk
Looks really good if healthy, big IF.
Im not sure if it makes sense for Philly/Giannis. You cant count on embiid to be healthy, and even if he is, those 2 without guards im not really sure how it would work.

As far as straight talent upgrades, this is the best return I've seen for the combo if this year's pick and the Milwaukee stuff.

Re: Giannis to Philadelphia (w/NOP and POR)
If the Bucks are trading Giannis to Philly and Philly is giving up Maxey then the Bucks have to be getting Maxey or the deal is absolutely dead right there no matter what else you're going to try and add on the margins. This trade is overly complex when it really should be Maxey/salary filler/picks for Giannis/salary filler.

I dont see why the Bucks would prefer Maxey to picks.
