Perhaps not the likeliest trading partners, but curious to see what people think of this simple exchange:

To DAL: Isaiah Joe
To OKC: PJ Washington

Why for DAL: Too many big men, not enough guards, especially guards who can shoot. (But maybe they need Washington to get a PG, or use Gafford to get a PG and then think they need to keep Washington?)

Why for OKC: Too many guards, not enough big guys who can defend stronger power forwards and still hit some shots.

Not even remotely close for Dallas.PJ brings so much more to the Mavs than Joe ever could

dallas as klay and christie for SG already. they need a PG. they would want Wallace but okc would balk at that

Maybe if you throw in 15? That's probably too much for an expiring PJ, but i also think 24 isnt enough. But i really do like PJ for OKC as a 30+ min backup that can play with either big. Joe/Kenrich/24?

Yeah I think OKC would be fine to add a bit, but not sure this is the top move they make if they make one.

Joe isn't the guarf the Mavs need, they need an on ball guard, and this is short of value, protected 1st, like DEN 27 or #15 if Mavs like someone this draft.

If they end up winning the title, i think all they need is to shore up their FC depth. This does accomplish that, but the UFA status of PJ might be problematic. If you can get him on a long term extension like Caruso that ages extremely well with a rising cap, that would assuage concerns, and PJ should be open to it. Though im not sure why Dallas wouldnt accept that extension themselves

An expiring PJ Washington is probably too much for OKC in terms of his next contract . Would pass.

I mean he's cheap to acquire (not this deal in the OP but something else that would be cheap). Might be worth it just as a rental as he fills in one of very few holes. Though obviously OKC has every option available to them so if you prefer someone else, you can likely have him.

As to the OP, I like Joe fine, but Dallas has two guards who are mostly shooters already. Don't need a 3rd. But find a team that needs a shooter and has a PG or wing defender to give Dallas and let's talk.

I think for what he brings (that we lack) he is cheap even if it’s cost us Joe, but realistically next season is our last season out of the tax before we are on the clock for repeater tax and the likes (assuming an SGA/Chet/Jalen core or even if we trade one of them for another better fitting player whoever that may be) so ideally I would want to trade for someone who is on a 2 years contract so on the second year he’s salary matching instead.

Now of course one move doesn’t preclude us from making other salary cap moves so if Presti decide he’s the best on court move that we can realistically made , he should proceed but Dallas focus will be on getting an interim PG first.
