HOU, CLE, UTA
HOU: Jabari Smith Jr, Dillon Brooks -4- Darious Garland
CLE: Darius Garland, 2nd -4- Collin Sexton, Jabari Smith Jr.
UTA: Collin Sexton -4- Dillon Brooks, 2nd
Works, with that magical 'no affect on winning %' across the board...

This trade is really about CLE and my premise that Garland/Mitchell need to be split up. In spirit this is a reversal of the Mitchell deal. Sexton is also a small guard, but his role would be off the bench and he's an absolute dog when the team's mental and physical toughness is being questioned. Smith Jr. still has upside and fits into the CLE lineup nicely with versatility to play either F spot and adding length they need. The also save some $.
Not sure if HOU wants Garland, but they should. He's the best player in the deal. FVV is likely still there one more year with a player option, but could be moved of come off the bench. Uncertain whether they want to pay Smith Jr. now that he's sharing space with Thompson.
Utah doesn't seem to care who their players are, so they're getting a 2nd to swap one out. They do have a lot of young guards to play behind Sexton, who's already pretty redundant with Clarkson. Still not sure where they're headed but I don't see this doing them any harm.

Re: HOU, CLE, UTA
I'd run it back with Garland personally if that's the return.
Jabari won't be happy backing up Mobely on a contract year while fighting Hunter for minutes.
Brooks has no value to UTA, and he fit well in HOU, I'd change it Green instead
HOU: Jabari Smith Jr, Green, #10 -4- Darious Garland + Cody Williams + #21
CLE: Darius Garland, 2nd -4- Collin Sexton, Jabari Smith Jr.
UTA: Collin Sexton + Cody Williams + #21 -4- Green + #10

Jabari and Brooks for Garland seems like a cheap deal for the Rockets. I'm not a massive fan of Garland but he would fit in extremely well on our team.
I would think the Cavs would ask for additional picks though.

There's no chance the Cavs bring back Sexton. I know he still has fans in Cleveland, but Cavs FO made the decision they made for a reason. Also, irrational confidence is not mental toughness.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

The reason was an untimely injury from which they gave his spot and money to LeVert. The bigger picture was that he didn't fit next to Garland. In this scenario, Garland isn't there. Whatever you want to call being willing to fight to the end undermanned 3 on 5, we could have used some of it against IND.

Re: HOU, CLE, UTA
The key for Houston trades are matching roles on the guys coming in vs going out, so the roster stays balanced.
If Garland comes in, either Green or FVV need to go out

I mean if you get Garland that cheap you take him and figure out Green later.

I'm not expecting a ton for Sexton, but the Jazz can do better than Dillon Brooks and a single 2nd

The injury happened after the Cavs declined to extend him, and after the Cavs shopped him the summer before he became a RFA. The reason they were ready to move on from him was the three straight years of terrible basketball with Sexton as lead guard. Now could he be better out of a sixth man role? Sure, especially with the right coach, but it's not clear that Sexton will agree to that role.
Sexton's passion and energy are admirable. His on the court decision making and defense are not.

Re: HOU, CLE, UTA
If Garland is in, Fred is out and our POA defense takes a huge hit. The value is great but it's the wrong direction unless we get more traditional rim protection.
Without strong POA defense Houston struggles for a play-in spot. Our goal should be to improve our offense/shooting without hurting POA D. Trading Jalen for an age appropriate, larger, more consistent offensive player would be my goal. Booker, Bane, Brown would be great targets.

Dillon Brooks should have more trade value than Sexton. Wing defenders who can shoot hold much more value than small scoring guards, they would not have issue flipping him for whatever they wanted for SextonPurpleGreenGold wrote:I'm not expecting a ton for Sexton, but the Jazz can do better than Dillon Brooks and a single 2nd

Yeah can use Fred or Greens salary elsewhere like a KD trade or something smaller, this looks too good for Houston imoTexas Chuck wrote:I mean if you get Garland that cheap you take him and figure out Green later.

I'm with JBK here: No interest in seeing Sexton back in a Cavs uniform, especially at the expense of Garland.

Would rather let Sexton expire
