Rudy Gobert Value?

With another up and down playoff stretch from Rudy, just wondering what his value would be this offseason around the league.

He's been a franchise difference maker in being the most consistent regular season player for the Wolves the last three years and is a primary reason we avoided the play-in this year, had home court in the first round last year and made the play-in in 2023, but in the long-term I think I'd rather have Naz and Randle during playoff stretches.

What teams might be interested in acquiring Rudy and how can the Wolves get back a Center that can give them 20-25 minutes a game + other value (cap relief or picks)?

I'll be interested to see responses to this, but we may be watching different playoffs. I'd take Rudy's regular and postseason impact over those two, both now and into the future. If it's just about cutting payroll, that's a different argument.

Dallas doesn't need older more expensive bigs. They need guys who can create their own shot and for others

He helps anchor the team, but I agree that Naz/Randle are the better long term fits for the team. And he does have matchups that he gets played off the court which is rough for a 35 million a year guy.

I really like him in LA. They need an anchor and someone who can catch lobs from Luka.

Minnesota out: Gobert, Minot, Garza, Leonard Miller
Minnesota in: Rui, JV, Vincent

LA out: Vincent, Rui, Vando
LA in: Gobert, Garza, Miller

Sac out: JV
Sac in: Minot, Vando

Kings can be swapped for another 3rd team, but I wanted to get Minnesota a backup big and makes the money easier for both teams.

Naz/JV
Randle/Rui
McDaniels/Shannon
Ant/DDV
Vincent/Conley/Dillingham

Ignore the BOS 2nd apron restrictions... what would balance a White for Gobert trade? Does White have more value? Would MIN pay extra value?

Maybe a three team deal where 3rd team gives up salary+assets for Gobert, MIN flips that salary/assets plus their own assets for White.

White/Ant/McDaniels/Randle/Naz as the starting 5 moving forward.

If Dallas was commits to “going all in” then you could do this trade and then trade Lively+Klay for a scoring guard.. dump Martin to try to stay under second apron…

But eh.

I imagine White would have more value. But I think Minny would likely hope that Donte/Dillingham/Shannon can hold down the other guard spot going forward and not pay the difference.

But if Minny made that swap that would still need at least a Gafford level center and likely better if they really want to complete in the west, maybe they could spin off Donte for Gafford, or maybe a Poelte becomes available if Toronto drafts a center and they paid a draft pick for him. Get a Lopez/Capela/Adams type in FA too maybe if money works out. I do like the Ant/White pairing quite a bit.

Bulls offer Vuc/CWhite for Rudy/#17
Or, maybe not-Rudy is too old for Giddey/Matas

I disagree very strongly with trading Rudy Gobert. The value Minnesota will get for him will likely not be enough to justify losing his impact. In particular, I think preferring Naz Reid to Rudy Gobert is pretty misguided, given his defensive woes.

That said, I think it is possible, especially if some sort of larger trade happens (think Kevin Durant).

So basically Vuc for Rudy? White is going to be valued at around the #17 pick already. So maybe not.

I love Rudy, but with Lively and AD on the roster that feels like a lot. Now as Jay says they can use Lively as value for something else, but this still feels like more value than Minny could expect. I think the first has to come out.

I agree. I’ve always felt that if the wolves go after Durant, Gobert will be the main piece getting moved out. How the rest gets worked out would be interesting.

Right now, I would agree, but by the end of both of their next contracts, when Ant is in his prime I'd take Naz at 28/29 vs Rudy at 34/35.

If you can run the team back, minus NAW, they should do it, but if they have to choose 2 of the three bigs, I think Rudy can 1. return the most in a trade and 2. doesn't align with Ant and Jaden's trajectories as well.

What would you be looking for? We have picks galore.

Rim running shot blocking defensive center has always been my favorite archetype.

If we flip Sengun somewhere, maybe for a classic PnR guard, I'd love to nab Rudy.

Gobert doesn't have been played off in the playoffs for the Wolves. This is a horrible offer for the Wolves.

If we moved Rudy we absolutely need a defensive bigman. Naz and Julius offer no rim protection, and Naz has been terrible defensively. Wolves would likely be trying to get a PG upgrade, or save money long term if they're moving Rudy. Or making some big move for say a Durant. I dont see them moving him.

Would need a defensive center back, so would probably have to be a 3 team trade.

Yeh, agree. The Wolves aren't going to improve by trading Gobert, despite his flaws.
