Trade Value: KAT, Hart, OG and/or Bridges
If the Knicks don't win 4 of their next 5 games and fall short against Indiana then they wanted to get the best rebuilding packages for KAT, Hart, OG and/or Bridges to flip for a star... what would be the best offers?

Bulls would offer Coby white, filler, 12 and a future unprotected 1st for Bridges

How is Colby White as a defender? I like the idea of adding a second shot creator next to Brunson, but the Knicks can’t afford another subpar defensive player on the roster.
The draft compensation is very attractive here - especially if it can be flipped for players who can contribute now ie Walker Kessler, ect.
Maybe we could flip #12 to Brooklyn and regain control of some of our future picks. Would Brooklyn send us our 29 + 31 picks back in exchange for #12?

I understand the swap, NY gets a grizzled shot maker, PHX gets a bit younger and K9AT is close with Book. Just don't think Phx owes a pick

They are 7 years apart and anyway the Suns selection I guess would be a very late FRP... I feel like the Knicks would be a better team, KD would give them some extra playmaking that they need and also KAT is a defensive liability and even a 37 year old KD would be an upgrade.

Can Jalen Smith be the filler?
Draft best defensive player at 12 and Knicks hire a coach that will play rookies. (cough * Jay Wright * cough)

Re: Trade Value: KAT, OG and/or Bridges
What about the Bulls for KAT? I’d prefer to keep OG and Bridges.
Coby White, Vucevic, Jalen Smith and Julian Phillips and 12 for KAT?
Mitch
OG
Hart
Bridges
Brunson
Bench: White, Vuc, McBride, Hukporti, Kolek, Dadiet with some vet FAs

Re: Trade Value: KAT, OG and/or Bridges
Some Anunoby ideas:
OG to Cleveland for Jarrett Allen and Max Strus. This would be part of a larger roster reshuffle in CLE and they would need to find a way under the 2nd apron, as well as include additional salary to a third team in this deal. But in theory CLE gets an elite 3 and D wing to pair with Mitchell and Mobley going forward. NY gets a rim protector to pair with KAT and a more traditional SG, shifting Bridges back to his natural SF position. This also helps the bench putting Hart in a 6th man role. This also opens up about 3.6mm below the 2nd apron and fills an extra roster spot.
OG to Memphis for Desmond Bane. I’m not sure about a Bane/Brunson backcourt defensively, but Memphis has been connected to OG for a while and Bane would give NY a traditional SG who is more of a secondary shot creator. Also opens up $2.8mm below the 2nd apron.
OG to Dallas for PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford and Caleb Martin. Can’t say I love this but see the logic for NY turning OG into depth. Opens 1.5mm below the 2nd apron while also filling 2 extra roster spots. Feels like NY would need a pick here (LA 29)
Sacramento feels like it could be interesting. I can see the logic of a Anunoby/Murray front court pairing with Sabonis. Making the money work is a little challenging, but I think Sac can flip DeMar DeRozan. Valancunis plus a sign and trade guy can round out the trade, but from a Knicks perspective I’d love a guy like Malik Monk off the bench. NY would look to get the 2 FRP’s SAC got for Fox in the deal.
Does a 3 team trade with the Clipppers where they get DeRozan, SAC gets Anunoby and NY gets Monk, Derricks Jones Jr, SAS 2027 1st and MIN 2031 1st make sense? NY would add about 10mm in flexibility to keep the trade open and flip one or both of the picks to round out the roster.
Houston is the final team. This would be a backup option if they strike out elsewhere, but I can see the logic of adding shooting. Dillion Brooks + Jabari Smith + 1-2 picks? NY would need to have a third team lineup up to flip the assets for win now pieces.

I think we should also be asking what Josh Hart’s trade value is. If we can flip him for whether a true secondary ball handler or a durable center it should be worth considering.
I could see Josh Hart for Malik Monk making sense.
I think the overall conclusion from this season is one of the three wings needs to be traded to balance the roster.

KD would give the Knicks a higher ceiling over a shorter period of time. Which is fine because Brunson turns 29 over the summer and the conference should be wide open for the next year or 2. Pheonix has the 29th pick in this years draft - which in theory can be used on a 4 year college guy who can play right away.
Knicks would be down to $7.1mm of space below the 2nd apron with 3 open roster spots - so this trade takes use of the tax MLE off the table unless they cut salary elsewhere, but they have room to keep Precious.
Brunson/Bridges/Anunoby/Durant/Robinson
McBride/Hart/Precious/FRP
Still need to move one of the wings for a C, but I think it’s a better roster. Maybe a Josh Hart for Daniel Gafford trade would be possible - which would open up the tax MLE to add another ball handler

I’d run it back with that core and focus on adding depth. There is something to be said for continuity.

Depth is tough to create without losing a key piece in the process though.

there isn’t a way to keep this core together and add depth.
Adding a piece with the tax MLE will help - but this team needs two pieces - a durable starting C and a bench scorer.

Maybe a three team involving Suggs/Lakers picks to the Knicks, Reaves to the Magic, and OG to the Lakers?

Reaves is probably closer to OG without picks

Re: Trade Value: KAT, Hart, OG and/or Bridges
OG to Detroit for Ausar Thompson and Tobias Harris (who is on an expiring). Gives you a younger version of OG with less offensive game (but cheaper and a lot of ceiling to explore) and future cap flexibility. Gives Detroit a more complete running mate to go with Cade right now in an East that's suddenly wide open if NY is blowing it up, Celtics and Sixers are down, and Milwaukee is trading Giannis.

The OG to Detroit thing is very interesting, but I’m not sure the Pistons would give up Ausar.
Maybe something like Tobias + Ron Holland + 2026 1st (unprotected) and 2028 1st (lotto protected for 2 years turning into 2 2nds). NY then flips Holland to Utah for Walker Kessler. Could also see NY taking Beef Stew over Tobias.
Would clear about $10mm below the apron. I would try to use that space to bring in Ochahi Abaji from Toronto.
Detroit runs out a lineup of:
Cade-Ivey-OG-Ausar-Duran
NY:
Brunson-Abaji-Bridges-Towns-Kessler
McBride-Hart-Harris-Robinson

I would love this as a Knicks fan. Get younger, cheaper and recoup some draft capital while moving Bridges back to his natural SF position.
But if your the Lakers, wouldn’t you take Suggs over OG and keep the pick to get a C?
