Cavs get: Jalen Williams, Cody Williams, Ousmane Dieng, KJ Martin and 15th pick via Thunder
Thunder get: Donovan Mitchell, Walker Kessler and Svi Mykhailiuk
Jazz get: Isaiah Hartenstein and their own 2026 first via Thunder

Why?
Cavs add a star in J-Dub plus some other goodies and save money.
Thunder get a superstar who is a perfect fit next to Shai and a young big that can defend the rim.
Jazz get a veteran big and their pick back to potentially start competing.

Our pick is top 8 protected, so I don't really think we'd try hard to get it back. No reason to get a starting center, no path to start competing in the short term. Utah cuts itself out pretty fast here.

This is a deal where every team says no on, but not terrible in terms of value.

OKC isn't giving you Jalen Williams for Mitchell. I like the idea though.

Hinges on what you think of Kessler. People are all over the map on his value, both on this forum and off.

Utah is also getting back Hartenstein, a player who is better than Kessler.

I think Cleveland can win the East next year with the team we currently have. I wouldn't feel that way if you replace Mitchell with Williams.

I’m not sure which team would do this deal.

Hart is really better for a contender than a rebuilding team. Expensive, not a ton of team control.

Thunder can’t afford Mitchell, and not sure he’d be happy in OKC. Jalen’s rookie max will be more affordable for longer.

Cleveland did the hard part of convincing Mitchell to stay. JDub balances the roster better giving them a 3 who can defend, but he doesn’t have the offensive punch.

This is exactly why the post you quoted said, Utah says no. I’m saying all teams probably say no, but the value itself isn’t far off.

My biggest concern for Cleveland is who gets buckets in the playoffs? I am not sure we can trust Garland to be an effective #2 in the playoffs at this point, and I certainly don't think Williams can be a playoff #1. OKC already has a playoff #1 and I don't think they need to bring in Mitchell with what they have going on now.

I didn't argue CLE would do it, I argued that OKC wouldn't.

Mitchell is a better individual talent, but he's not as good a fit as Williams on either team.

That aside, I don't see a clear path past NYK or IND, but it's certainly possible CLE could win the conference.

No, it's pretty far off..... Hartenstein is not any cheaper than Kessler would be on his extension, he's not that much better, if at all, he's older, and we're also giving up a recent lottery pick in Williams......

All for our own pick that's not going to convey anyway..... That's not even remotely good or equal value.....
