Port-Orl with Chi

Port sends Simons to Orl
Port gets KCP/#25/their pick back from Bulls plus JCarter

Orl sends KCP/#25 to Port and JHoward to Chi
Orl gets Simons

Bulls send Port JCarter and their pick back
Bulls get JHoward
Maybe Chi gets a 2nd from both teams?

Port focuses on Scoot/Sharpe. KCP is a great vet leader and can back up the 2/3. They add a late pick this year and, more importantly, get their pick back. Carter is a useless, expiring vet

Orl gets offense. They still have the #16 to play with, but Suggs/SImons/Black/Anthony is a solid backcourt rotation

Bulls save a bit of $ this year, and dump useless Carter. They get a look at Howard and add some 2nds. MAYBE Chi/Port swap 11/12?

I could see something like this.

I think Magic need to send out #16 instead of #25... so here are my edits:

Port out: Simons to Orl & #11 to Chi
Port in: #12 / #16/KCP / Carter / Future POR pick returned

Orl out: KCP/#16 to Port and JHoward to Chi
Orl in: Simons

Bulls out: #12 / Carter / Future POR pick
Bulls in: #11 / JHoward

Would Chicago have any interest in trading Huerter? Portland could use his shooting...

16 would be to much...the more i think about it the magic will look to just keep kcp..and look to just pick up a couple role players that shoot and handle the ball..

Apologies for veering off topic. What do you think Portland’s plans are with Thybulle? Is he part of the long range plan?

IMO the 25 is not enough to both dump KCP and upgrade to Simons and a straight up deal between Portland and Orlando would have to be around 16.

However Chicago is kind of greasing the wheels for Orlando here, getting our pick back makes it more worth considering. I do think if anyone needs to make up value it's Orlando that owes Chicago so I don't understand the 11/12 swap, although in effect as long as Chicago and a Portland don't have the same draft target in mind it shouldn't matter too much.

Right, the 11/12 is not very important
Orl could throw the Bulls a second or two

I think Port would like KCP. He's a pro and respected vet. I'm sure Chauncey would love having him in the locker room, and Sharpe can play the 3 some too.

Will Port hope to go after free agents next summer?

Good question.

I hope Thybulle sticks in POR. Hopefully the FO agrees.

Quality FA do not sign in POR. Odds are POR wants to let DA expire and use that money to resign youth. That is the reason why KCPs contract is a potential issue. I like him as a player.

It'll be interesting to see if Thybulle opts out of his contract but he's a good fit now with Portland's plus defenders, led by
Camara

but, KCP's salary next season is 5M less than Simons; and his 2026/27 salary is 21M when the Blazers, right now, Blazers only have 76M in guaranteed salary that season. Add KCP and they are at 88M when the cap will be 170M. Add a couple of 1st round picks; re-sign Sharpe and Thybulle (after maybe extending Camara in July), and the Blazers could still be 15-20M BELOW the cap with 12 players under contract

I don't think KCP's contract is a big deal, at all. But I do think that Orlando needs to add that #16 rather than the #25. As far as I'm concerned other than that 16, Orlando could send back KCP or Issac or Anthony + Harris or Anthony + Moritz. I do see that Orlando has to be cautious about salaries because they could be dancing around the aprons

Seems unlikely since he missed so much of the season.

Agree.
Portland will not allow Simons to walk without a contract. Either we trade him, or he's going to be re-signed.

So the fair calculus here is:
KCP: $21M + $21M
vs
Simons: $27M + TBD

As long as Simons new contract is >$15M (almost guaranteed to happen), then Portland saves money with the swap.

Magic's salary cap management for next season is going to be key.

I could see Orlando possibly wanting to include KCP + Anthony to be able to get below the tax line

I figured the same-Port might not "want" KCP's 2nd year, but they save $5 million this year and KCP is a vet leader. They'll still have possible cap space in 2026, and KCP is an attractive expiring deal in 2026/27 for a trade and they'd have their pick back for a deal for a vet

I think around 20th pick plus KCP is about right for Simons. The problem is, Magic don’t have the 20th pick, they have 16 and 25. I like the OP because it does something to bridge that gap.

That's the idea. Bulls dump some dead weight (Carter) add a young prospect and save a bit of $. Hopefully we add a 2nd or two
