Milwaukee - Brooklyn - Boston

Milwaukee out: Kuzma, Connaughton, 2026 swap rights w/ BOS/BRK 1st
Milwaukee in: Holiday

Boston out: Holiday, 28, 2026 1st
Boston in: Johnson

Brooklyn out: CamJ
Brooklyn in: Kuzma, Connaughton, 28, BOS 2026 1st, MIL 2026 swap (after swap w/ NOP)

Why for Milwaukee: add a starting guard
Why for Boston: Add a forward to replace Tatum and save money
Why for Brooklyn: get 2026 1st for Johnson and another late 1st for eating kuzma's salary. make team worse to tank harder next year

Fair value for all, except maybe a tad more for Brooklyn could make sense, because i'd honestly wonder what the heck the Nets were doing. I get it on paper and all, its just that they already have so many picks i guess, and Cam is so much better than Kuz.

This deal should be fine without #28.

was thinking cam J = expiring and 2026 1st, and holiday + 28 = expiring.. maybe i'm off on the latter

I just don't think Brooklyn values #28 at all considering they pick at #26 and #27, and an unprotected 1st is highly valuable.

BOS are getting 2 late 1sts (1 in this draft when they have 5 picks), and swap in a year thry are plannjng to tank, they shouldn't consider this...

The MIL swap is with BOS 1st too. So basically they are more likely to get a pick in the teens if not lotto next year

I think it’s 28 or 2026 1st, not both. This save Boston money and returns a useful player, but it is a net negative on the basketball court. I don’t think it saves enough money to merit both picks.
2026 makes better sense because BRK already has a boatload of picks this year, and we need to moderately protect that 2026 pick. Probably top 10.

Johnson was more productive than Holiday this year on court. why is it a net negative?

Not that big of a difference, BOS are really underpaying here, the value their sending barely turns expiring to CamJo, even then I'd consider it underpay, these are really uninspiring picks.

JRue ranks much higher in overall impact metrics. I think there is a useful player in the draft at 28 and the 2026 draft is very strong and deep.
I think if the trade is Jrue and top 10 protected 2026 it’s fair. If BRK want 28 as well make it a swap for 36

Scene:

(Sean Marks phone ring rings):

3 way call incoming from BOS + MIL to BK.

Hey Sean, I hope you are enjoying the Memorial Day Weekend. We know you are very interested in one of our players and we want to talk framework of a fun trade. Is that okay with you?

Sean: Sure, we can talk more Giannis. What would you suggest?

(BOS + MIL stutter and get scared with BOS being confused)

MIL: Yeah, the trade is definitely interesting. We are speaking with BOS to make sure you get compensated properly.

Sean: Don't you mean YOU getting compensated fairly?

Stevens texts Horst: Dude we can't do this to BK. If we propose this they won't even take our calls anymore.
Horst to Stevens: STFU we can do this. We will do this. Let us try. Who knows?
Stevens to Horst: I do not want to be involved in this anymore.

Horst gathers himself and speaks this out loud to Marks:

Would it be okay if you gave us Cam Johnson so we can move him to BOS and we will get you a great package?

Marks: What would that be?

Horst: Kuzma, Connaughton, 28, BOS 2026 1st, MIL 2026 swap (after swap w/ NOP)

Marks: So you want us to take Kuzma and add a 5th pick to our current 1st round pick load for this year and take a Boston 1st which is likely 20-30, and a crappy MIL swap which NOP will use in 2026 leaving us with maybe pick 24, with Connaughton as the thing that takes this over?

Horst: Okay maybe we can figure something else out.

Marks: We don't want a 5th 1st in this draft. We are trying to move two of them to consolidate or trade into another draft for a potential Top 10 pick in 26 or 27. We view Kuzma as what he is, a negative asset. Connaughton is meh.

Horst: We understand. Let's chat soon.

Marks: Sounds good. Let's see where Giannis ends up and then we can talk about a deal with CamJo.

Horst: Okay (rolls eyes and knows what that means).

Johnson (29 with no tread on his legs) is currently valued much higher than a nearly retired Jrue Holiday (age 35).

bucks say no even with that swap removed

woud rather ride out 2 years of kuzma at 21mil and 1 year of pat at 9 than pay 38 year old jrue 38mil 2 years from now

need to give us at least one asset to make up for taking on that anchor of a contract -- jrue is just a 12-4-4 guy now and is obviously declining

I'm not mad at this for Brooklyn. We may have a larger purpose for Cam J in trade, but if not this is a decent opportunity.

Zion might be traded this off season so maybe it will be teens.

MIL might be on the rebuild if Giannis is indeed gone.

But, if you are BK you do not make this trade unless you get better assets as you cannot be sure that both Giannis and Zion will be traded. You either are in on those deals or you wait until they happen to get these picks and more.

37 years old and 37 million but who’s counting :)
I think there is a lot of overstating how bad Jrue is and How he is declining etc.
His value isn’t in filling up the stats sheet.
If there is a way to keep him the Celtics would.
