Naz Reid's 2025-26 Salary

Post#1 » by NYG » Mon May 26, 2025 10:56 pm

What will Naz Reid's 2025-26 Salary be? It's a weak free agent class, but also the Nets are the only team with cap space. Is it possible Reid opts to wait until next off-season to opt out?

I hope the Nets make him a sizable offer and move Claxton for assets. That would be wise cap and asset management. My gut is he'll get about $20mil per.

Hawks have a $25.2 million TPE to offer in a SnT.

It's a question Wolves fans have pondered ever since we made the KAT trade(in order to afford to keep Naz). I'm no cap expert, so I'll use Shrink's post from our capology thread because he is the boards capguy.

shrink wrote:https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/MIN.html

Using BBRef, MIN has a payroll of $192,331,959. Add in the #17 pick, ($3.5 x 120%) =$4.2 mil so $196.53 for 14 players.

Possible changes:
Randle rejects $30.9 Player Option. New deal?
Naz Reid rejects $15 mil Player Option. New deal?
Nickiel Alexander Walker. New deal?
Another vet min ($2.3) to roster 15?
[Garza ($2.35) or Minott ($2.19) might be replaced with other vet min, but since that’s close to vet min, I’m skipping]

So if I remove $45.9 from $196.5, our payroll is $150.6 without Randle, Naz, or NAW. We can pay the three up to ..

Luxury Tax Threshold: $187.9-$150.6=$37.3. (Randle $30 + NAW $7 maybe?)
First Apron: $196-$150.6=$45.4 (Randle $30 + Naz $15 maybe?)
Second Apron: $207.8-$150.6=$57.2. (Randle $30 + Naz $18 + NAW $9)

I think the first two would really be asking players to take a cut back in their salaries to stay. I would hope new ownership is willing to pay up to the second apron and keep the team together, considering two straight WCF visits, and maybe more!

We can assume NAW is going to be gone. Wolves have young guys in Jaylen Clark and Terrence Shannon Jr who have shown to be possible contributors and need the cheap production. Also there's potential that Randle opts out, and lowers his $30m figure. He's bought in, loves playing for Finch and has had his most successful overall season.

To answer the question, I'd say somewhere in the $20m range. We did see Naz turned down a larger offer before to stay in Minnesota where he's an icon. Is he a better player than Josh Hart? He signed a 4 year 80.9m extension last season. Grayson Allen 4/70. Onyeka Okongwu 4/62. Beef Stew 4/60.

BKN may offer him somewhere like 3 years 70M , with the last year being player option. MIN has hard time to match, as they still need to handle NAW and Randle.

What would you give the Wolves in that deal?

A TPE worth whatever NAZ is signing for.

I'm pretty low on Naz.

Maybe it's his role on Minny but he's awful defensively. I don't see how he's better than Christian Wood was on Rockets and Mavs.

So I'd be thinking ~$17m is right for Naz.

I'm going to guess Year 1 would be $21 Million with raises

Who can offer that? Nets?

Minny have good leverage as no one that would want Naz has more than $14m to offer.

Opt in and max extention and I agree with Zimpy, he's a non-idiot non-malcontent Christian Wood in terms of talent and skillset.

Why opt in and extend rather than just opt out and sign a new deal? Genuinely curious

Opt in gives MIN the option to give 40% raise in the 1st year of extention, this makes his salary lower the opt in year but the guaranteed money bigger, which is what MIN needs.
Deal would be something close to
14
19.5
21
23
25

My current guess for Minnesota is that Randle winds up elsewhere as they try to duck the luxury tax. Bring back Naz/NAW for about 30M combined, probably a little money above vet min left to shop for a bench center and still stay out of the tax. #17/#31 available to add some young talent.

What if Randle opts in?

Then they cheap out the other way and Naz/NAW are likely gone.

Obviously both Randle and Naz could opt in and make staying out of the tax impossible (without a trade), but I think that's unlikely.

Minnesota has some leverage in that situation, they can say they won't do it. I'd expect *something* coming back.

FWIW Naz is more of a PF who can play center these days. I wouldn’t move Claxton to make way for him. If anyone, I’d move Cam Johnson instead. Though BK has a great case to move both for assets.

To answer OP, Malik Monk money, maybe slightly more seems pretty fitting. 3/$60-70 feels right.
