DAL - SAC

Post#1 » by bpcox05 » Tue May 27, 2025 2:19 pm

---------------------------------------

DAL Gets: DeMar DeRozan & Malik Monk
DAL Gives: Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, & Naji Marshall
Why for DAL? The Mavs add a couple of go-to scorers/playmakers to help fill in while Irving rehabs and both can be relegated to the bench when the Mavs are fully healthy giving them a very strong bench to help bolster their championship aspirations.

PG - Irving / Monk / Williams
SG - Christie / Hardy
SF - Flagg / DeRozan / Martin
PF - Davis / Prosper
C - Lively / Gafford / Powell

---------------------------------------

SAC Gets: Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, & Naji Marshall
SAC Gives: DeMar DeRozan & Malik Monk
Why for Kings? The Kings add a lot of size, length, defense, and shooting (all things they definitely need around Sabonis). Washington slots in very well next to Sabonis at PF which allows Murray to return back to his ideal position (SF). Marshall gives them another defensive, lengthy forward off the bench and Thompson gives them a solid bench scorer/shooter. The Kings would still be missing a real PG but they’d have much more size, length, defense, and shooting to help improve in other areas. They could plan on exploring more trades the following offseason to bring in a star PG using LaVine’s massive expiring salary as a good way to make contracts work.

PG - Ellis / Carter
SG - LaVine / Thompson / Davis
SF - Murray / Marshall
PF - Washington / LaRavia
C - Sabonis / Valanciunas / Jones

Derozen and Klay are probably a wash. DDR maybe better player but costs a bit more. PJ and Marshal are worth more than Monk. I think Sac owes a little more value here.

Feel like its unnecessary for Dallas. They probably need only 1 of Monk or DD. I can see Klay/Naji for DD or PJ for Monk, but not both.

Dallas isnt giving up both PJ and Naji and then having to take on DDR, non starter

I would do it if it were Martin instead of Naji.. With Naji, I’m not a fan.. and would expect a few seconds back if the team did go that route?

Don’t really think you need both Monk and Demar, but getting both should mean the offense can sustain a play-in spot without Kyrie… Not what many Dallas fans hope for, but seems the plan. Getting either guard could be enough to do the same if AD/Lively are healthy and Flagg is what some think.

Sac also needs to take Powell in order to make it a legal trade. Would try to make it Hardy in order to free up the room under second apron to backfill the roster spot.. But at least Powell.. Dallas can dump Hardy with the seconds Sac adds, then maybe have the room to use most/small of the small taxMLE

Kings agree to take back Hardy and I would do this as is. Yeah I hate how little shooting Dallas has, so their min contract adds would need to be shooters, but I disagree Dallas has so much offense pre-Kyrie that these players are redundant. That last month plus of the season was rough rough offensively. And I don't want AD overloaded on that end. Need him to ensure the defense is elite and need him healthy for the vast majority of non-Kyrie games.

YA this is really it. Dallas really only needs 1.

I see it as if they want DeRozan i'd want Naji
If they want Monk, I'd ask for PJ (but I'd still take Naji lol)

This is no problem from Sac POV. Realistically we take Powell and Hardy, while also giving Dallas a few 2nds if that is what it took to make this deal work.

Kings will suck either way, but this solves 90% of our fit issue in 1 go. Still would need a point guard badly. We could also take Washington into the Huerter exception, so if Boston wanted to take back say Hardy or Powell + Klay, we could squeeze Jrue in here.

PJ/Hardy to SAC for Monk

Klay/Martin/Powell/OMP to BOS for Jrue

Kyrie opt out and extend for a new 3 year deal at lower salary to give apron room

Gafford 2 year extension

Kyrie / Monk
Jrue
Flagg / Marshall
AD
Lively / Gafford

Next year tough with Kyrie recovery timeline, but genuinely think DAL could compete for championships with that team if Flagg is a legit #1 pick type impact player right away. That's an absolutely terrific fitting roster IMO. Kyrie/Monk/AD/Jrue/Gafford would all be on 3 year deals too so once this window ends they'd be in terrific financial position to add younger pieces around Flagg for a second window.

I don't see the point of the DDR/Klay swap
PJ/Hardy for Monk js a good deal IMO.

The more trades I read the more it sets in how screwed the Kings are. I try and picture these trades from the other teams point of view and it hardly ever makes sense for them. DDR and Lavine just aren't winning players. If we get anything of value for either one of these guys I'll be shocked
