Paul George for DeAaron Fox

Philly gives: George, #3 pick.

Philly receives: Fox, Harrison Barnes

Spurs give: Fox/Barnes

Spurs receive: George, #3 pick.

Why for Philly: They get off the terrible PG3 contract and get back an all star caliber player in Fox along with the capable Barnes to fill the wing role in Philly. They’ve shown willingness to deal the third pick and this moves kills two birds with one stone. Getting Embiid immediate help and correcting a past error.

Why for the Spurs: when they traded for Fox they couldn’t have had any idea they’d luck into Dylan Harper. This paves the way for Harper to have an immediate impact and reunites the Rutgers duo. The spurs timeline revolves around the 21 year old Wemby, now they can grow with him, Harper, Ace and Castle. They can afford to eat the George contract in the meantime who can mentor the younger players and still see a significant role

I don't think the Spurs want to waste another couple of years of Wemby's cheap contract by getting clearly worse on paper for a few seasons.

The trade for Fox indicated a direction to be competitive in the 2025-2026 season. This goes against that.

No thank you. Hard pass from Philly.

Maxey and Fox doesn’t seem like a good pairing. Think you need a third team that values Fox as much as SAS did.

If SAS thinks Bailey and Harper are both going to be stars, then you do this and let the team grow slow.

It doesn't matter who's coming back in all of these 3 + PG trades. Embiid's knees are paste. There's no way around this. They're not going to make a win now trade because there's no way to make this roster a contender without him.

All of the messaging from every reporter is if they trade out of 3, it's just for a minor move down in the same draft.

Agree with both of these - I don't think this one makes sense either way

In terms of value, Fox + ridding yourself of Paul George (huge negative) > 3rd pick in this draft. On top of that, Fox is not a good fit on the 76ers and Spurs wouldn't trade him anyway, so it's dead on arrival.

God no. The #3 pick is not enough compensation to take on that disgusting PG contract, let alone having to dump Fox AND Barnes to do it. Pass

its not a bad trade..PG might be playing ok next year and is Fox the better player? i am not sure

Spurs might have to dump Fox in 2 years anyway

Current Fox is a much better player than current PG. This is not 2019 prime Paul George. He is cooked. Fox is in his prime

Disagree on value, flip that chevron the other way.

However, agree on the last part for both sides.

problems is Fox is not exactly the player you think he is. He is ranked 136 in RAPM, 120 in DARKO, 98 in EPM and 93 in BPM. If he is in his prime he is cooked as well.

Are those last season numbers? Because I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that. He played through an injury on his shooting hand all season and was checked out before getting traded and didn't have much of a chance to play with Victor before both of their seasons ended.

We're fine with Fox. Another team can enjoy paying 38 year old PG 50M+

Spurs would do this, but Philly never would. In a new environment PG13 likely rehabs his value, and the #3 pick is too good to pass up on. Only problem on the Spurs end would be that they promised to extend Fox, so they can' really go back on that.

sure but even previous season he is not a top 20 guy in the league by all stats. I think Wemby deserves a better 2nd option.

I actually have the Sixers passing here. Fox and Maxey is just an awful pairing.

I just don't know how to assess the viability of trading the #3 to offload Paul's contract. We have a reasonable idea of what it costs to buy SRP's and late FRP's because it happens all the time. But we don't really have a frame of reference to assess the cost of buying a #3 pick (or selling a gargantuan bad contract). I just don't think us fans have the perspective. Obviously, no fan wants to sacrifice a high lotto pick just to save money because it's not THEIR money. But presumably, for an owner, there is a dollar value that makes it worth it. What that dollar value is, I can't say.

I don't necessarily disagree with you there but I don't think he's necessarily Wemby's #2 forever just because he's here now. Spurs can always go out and get another star player at some point. Or if Castle or Harper are that guy in the future then we already have Wemby's #2 and they just need to develop.

I think Fox is a top 25-30ish player in the league but that's not even my point. I'm just saying Spurs dumping their two best vets and taking on PGs horrendous contact isn't enough value for the third pick. There's too big a drop off from Flagg/Harper to the next tier of prospects and tying up 56M in cap for a 38 year old beyond cooked PG sounds awful

Not to mention, “reuniting” Harper and Bailey isn’t exactly the best idea anyway. It’s like reuniting oil and water.

That PG contract is an UGLY swallow. But if Harper and Ace both hit, they've got 4/5 of a starting line-up for the next 7 or 8 years. And by the time PG has a year to go, you still have the 27 ATL 1st, the 28 Boston 1st, the 2030 Dallas/Minny swap, and the 31 Sac swap to add to him. You also have Vassell and Sochan, and to a lesser extent Johnson and Champagnie, as depth.
