Lauri to SAC w/NOP

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Wed May 28, 2025 6:38 am

NOP trades: DeJounte Murray, 2026 IND 1st (1-4 protected thru 2027, otherwise 2027 UTA 2nd + 2028 DAL 2nd)
in: DeMar DeRozan, Terence Davis
New Orleans shaves a year off Murray's deal + saves some money immediately + gets someone who can be in their rotation. The cost is what is likely a late first.

SAC trades: DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas, Terence Davis, 2026 SAC 1st, 2026 CHA 2nd, 2027 CHA 2nd
in: Lauri Markkanen
Sacramento upgrades DeRozan. Offensively they'd be a lot of fun, though I don't see a path to real success unless they tear it down. In a brutal Western Conference there is a chance this is still a lottery team even if they win 45+ games.

UTA trades: Lauri Markkanen
in: DeJounte Murray, Gabe Vincent (bought out), 2026 SAC 1st, 2026 IND 1st (1-4 protected thru 2027, otherwise 2027 UTA 2nd + 2028 DAL 2nd), 2026 CHA 2nd, 2027 CHA 2nd, 2032 LAL 2nd, cash
Utah gets an unprotected 2026 1st for Lauri with some very plausible upside + adds additional assets for taking Murray (who will probably miss the entire season?) that include an additional first + several seconds (an asset class Utah is a bit short on). The other benefit of this is that they help two other teams that Sacramento will be competing with for the playoffs. I would hope they would prioritize doing the same in moving off of Clarkson/Collins/Sexton. If Murray comes back in two seasons and looks recovered maybe he can be flipped for some seconds and an expiring - but that is looking too far ahead.

LAL trades: Gabe Vincent, 2032 LAL 2nd, cash
in: Jonas Valanciunas
The Lakers swap Vincent for a center who is playable in the regular season.

In my opinion, no team should do this except the Jazz (although I think the value is good).
NOP should be patient with Murray after what they paid for him (2 FRP + Daniels, etc.), at least until he can show his fit/level on the court.

KINGS, they need defense, and at this point, they've probably figured that out (my favorites to get Jrue).

I don't think the Lakers want to add salary long-term, not for Valanciunas, maybe JV for JV (Valanciunas for Vandervilt?)

We should be banned from trading our own firsts for awhile. But if you'll take spurs 27 1st then I guess so.

I agree, but I wouldn't take that, tbh. I hope y'all rebuild : /

You're still Jonesing for that 2026 SAC FRP!

I don’t think NOP should trade any first for Demar, even getting off of DJM. Just wait out DJM if the best you can do is Demar. It isn’t a good first though, so I guess if their fans like it?

The Sac deal does look like the right value and the LAL trade is decent. Jonas isn’t the center you want, but he’s an upgrade and maintains assets for a bigger move.
