Trade 1: Cavs get under 2nd apron to complete 2nd trade. Utah gets a young piece to add to their rebuild.

Trade 2: Boston gets an all star big and is 11 million from getting under 2nd apron which would mean trading Hauser to Detroit for a TPE, Cleveland gets under 2nd apron which gives them the space to sign Jerome, and Sacremento gets a younger 2x allstar point guard to build around.

Trade 2: I hate this for Cleveland. Brown doesn't fix their issues and we saw their offense become disjointed without a floor general.

I think Brown gives them the physicality they need from the wing to defend athletic teams. I think Garland and Mitchell are just to undersized to compete.

I love this for CLE, it's just what they need.

You forgot to list SAC in the title.

Cavs right now are $5.1M over the 2nd apron with 11 players signed. Factoring in filling out the roster and they're probably like $10M over. This deal swaps $66.3M in Garland/Okoro/Strus for $54.1M in Brown but also creates two more open roster spots. The math there is REALLY tight. CLE would have to get creative to fill the team out. It's probably doable, but very, very hard and likely requires a shallow roster. It's be Mitchell/Brown/Hunter/Mobley/Allen as starters (awesome!) but then Wade and all vet min and multiple ROOKIE minimums on the bench. That's not sustainable to keep staying in the 2nd apron and being that shallow with all of those guys long term either.

It's a creative idea but I just can't see the payroll math working.

Right but that fixes one area while opening up an even bigger one, unless you expect Mobley to be able to be Bam Adebayo offensively and be a pillar of their offense.

I think you need to check math on the Apron.
After the trade the Cavs have 6 vacant roster spots. 8 players. I don’t think there is room to sign Jerome and stay under the 2nd Apron, where Cleveland is now hardcapped.
Sac becomes hard capped at the 1st Apron.

There are no SRPs in the trade, there were none when I responded. Maybe he deleted them within six minutes after he posted and before I saw it, but how is that not a legitimate question?

I wouldn't do this. You're trading two starters and a rotation wing for a really good player who just isn't worth 35% of the cap. I don't think we can retain either Jerome or Merrill after this. After you bump Hunter up to replace Strus, you have Wade and that's it on the bench.

More than that, I'm not at all sure that a Brown/Mitchell backcourt works or what that means for Mobley's development.

Ah, spotrac hasn't adjusted for the Mobley DPOY bonus yet. Still have him at 25%. Tough break for CLE there (not necessarily because they can't do this deal, just in general).

Fanspo said they'd be 9.7 million under second apron with 9 roster spots. They could move which they'd use to sign Jerome. Then they'd still have to fill two roster spots after. My guess is they'd probably need to move Wade for another TPE then sign 3 minimum vets to fill out the roster if they want to stay under 2nd apron. Might need to include Dean Wade to Sacremento with Davis and Jones going to Cleveland.

I think Sport Trac is more accurate.
Assuming you guarantee Porter you have 9 guys and about 7 million under the 2nd apron after the trade. You need 14 rostered players minimum.

Aside the 2nd Apron challenges. I am nervous about this from the Boston side. Yea it saves a bunch of Money and Sabonis is a great player…maybe higher trade value than Brown given the contracts, but Brown is a proven playoff performer and great fit in Boston. My guess is they don’t look to move him but IDK.

Why not just send Hauser into the Sac TPE?

if boston accepts that deal, SacrAmento just cuts out ClevAland out and takes Brown for themselves.
