SAS - Minnesota
SAS trade: Fox, 38
Minnesota trade: Randle, DDV, 17
Why for SAS: Decide to stick with harper/castle and get a starting PF and shooter to complement their young core
Why for Minnesota: upgrade the PG/2nd option and free up starting spot for Reid

Re: SAS - Minnesota
I think Randle is a good fit in SAS, physical PF balances Wemby perimeter game, I just think the extension with Fox is already agreed upon and don't see SAS negging on their word, I also don't think Castle is good enough to be trusted with the team, and Harper is unknown, Wemby wants to have a good team around him and it starts with the PG.

Re: SAS - Minnesota
Swapping Fox and Randle is interesting, but it seems like the direction doesn't work. I think the Spurs would be better off trading Castle for this or some of their picks in a 3-way where Minnesota gets a win-now piece.

I think they change their mind to avoid becoming the Kings v2 (hali-fox-mitchell). but you could very well be right. The fit is really awkward right now though

The problem is, Fox can't be extended for few months if he's traded even if Wolves promise it, if they promised him an extension they need his agreement to trade him, they won't go behind his back.

I don't think Fox can be extended at all in Minnesota if he is traded there.

He can be, in 6 months, just like Caruso last year.

I may be alone here, but I think that this is grossly overvaluing Fox relative to Randle. I see them as similar tier players. I like the positional fit, but the deal is better without the picks.

I, too, see them as similar-tier players. I also worry that Fox is showing a slight decline in speed and burst, his #1 cheat code, his ability going from sub-allstar down to average starter over the next couple of seasons.

Small guards overly reliant on speed are the archetype which I'm most cautious about as they age.

Re: SAS - Minnesota
I didn't like the Fox addition when they made it, but having made it I happen to agree with Spurs fans on this one--they are going to see this out and just look at the jump to #2 as a bonus.
What I don't like is this split the baby plan they like. If you keep Fox, don't go into this season with so much money allocated to Keldon/Barnes/Vassell. Upgrade that. And if you aren't then yeah don't pay Fox.

Re: SAS - Minnesota
Spurs have not even got a real look at what the Fox/Wemby duo looks like, they're not going to just ship him out because they won the #2 pick. And I like DDV but I want no part of diva Randle in San Antonio, he is an empty calories player that shrinks when it really matters

Why is everyone talking about Randle like this? He bullied LeBron and Draymond in the post. He bought into a system which requires a ton from him according to prominent Wolves fans on this board and the general board. He was nothing but professional in New York and Minnesota and calling him a diva is wildly inaccurate.
What makes Fox a better player than Randle?
Isn't Fox more of a diva than the professional that Randle is?
Fox is just as empty calorie as Randle

I think Fox is off the table until given a full season. Maybe 2026 offseason if the fit isn't good

Re: SAS - Minnesota
yeah Randle has some flaws, but he's played for what 4 teams now? And on all of them he's been a very good regular season player who has been a total professional with no reports of drama or selfishness.
I think too often people look at a player's game, decide they don't like the style and assign personality traits based on assumptions. We see this with DeRozan all the time too. Another guy who has played in a bunch of spots, been super productive in the regular season, and shows up and plays hard every night.
Randle would absolutely help the Spurs with what should be a goal of making the playoffs. Not telling them to make this trade, but Randle would be a positive addition towards that end absolutely.

Ironic, given how Fox closed out the only playoff series he's ever played in. If that's not shrinking from a challenge, then I don't know what is. Clutch-POY voting that year looked hilarious in retrospect.

Fox is just as empty calorie as Randle
So? He should bully them in the post, he's bigger/stronger than them. Spurs don't need a post player taking up space in the paint. I have said this ad nauseum on here - Spurs need a PF like JJJ next to Victor, not someone who is going to post up and take up his space. Not to mention the defensive aspect.
Maybe the diva comments aren't warranted but watching him in the playoffs and he definitely looks like someone who begins sulking when things don't go his way. Why is Fox a diva? Because he asked to be traded after his team fired his coach for the 10th time and tried to make it seem like it was his fault that Brown got fired? Fox has never had the chance to play as a #2 which he is more suited for than a #1. As I said, the Spurs are not going to trade him without really seeing how he and Wemby play together. Not to mention how bad it would like for a star player to finally demand to be traded to SA only to have them turn around and ship him out 6 months later.

Randle does not fit here. He is also pretty injury prone and will be 31 in November. No thanks, we're fine with Fox. It seems like only fans of other teams seem to think we need to dump Fox for some reason

That is fair, he had a bad closeout game for sure. But that was also his first trip to the playoffs. Pretty much every star player has had a bad closeout game at some point in their career. This was against the defending champs too.
He had a couple poor shooting games that series that brought his average down but he still put up 27.4/7.7 with 2 steals in his first playoff series. But yeah let's ignore all context and focus only on the final game

Come on man, you post on this board frequently. Ever since SA won the #2 pick, a number of threads have been started with trade scenarios involving the Spurs trading Fox. Like the one you're posting in now
